Dharma Wanita Association FMIPA Jember University held a regular meeting (6/9). “Thank God this regular meeting can be attended by more participants; hopefully we will always be given good health so that the friendship continues,” said Drs. Achmad Sjaifullah, M.Sc., Ph.D., Dean of FMIPA UNEJ, who is also the Supervisor of DWP FMIPA. The Dean’s Meeting Room looked full, and apart from the gathering agenda, the FMIPA DWP members were also enthusiastic about immediately following the practice of making woven bags.
“Today we will be accompanied by Mrs. Lidya Ningrum from Pak Tara Craft to make woven bags,” said Nur Sa’dijah Achmad Saifullah, Chair of DWP FMIPA at the start of the event. Mr. Tara Craft has made many woven bags and has also provided assistance in making woven bags. “We hope that these skills can be useful for all DWP members while filling their free time by continuing to be creative,” he concluded. The participants were then given three packages of rope as material for making woven bags.
Mrs. Lidya Ningrum and her team immediately provided assistance in making the basic woven bag. “We are distributing 3 ropes of rope so that later we can make a small bag like the example we brought,” he explained. Lidya continued that making small bags is the basis for making other bag models that are bigger and have more motifs in them. “First, to begin with, we make the same color by making a row of 5 times 9, which will later become the base of the bag,” he continued.
It seemed that the DWP FMIPA UNEJ ladies were enthusiastic about taking part in the training in making woven bags. Mrs. Linda’s team patiently accompanied all the participants one by one. “After the basics, use rope or a different color to start making the sides of the bag; to make it easier so it doesn’t run away, you can lock it,” again Mrs. Linda provided assistance. After some time, almost all participants were able to complete the basic bag; some were even almost finished in the form of a woven bag.
