Early Detection of Breast Cancer: PKM-RE FMIPA Receives BELMAWA DIKTI Funding 2025

PKM RE team from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) University of Jember, with the theme “Optimalisasi Rekonstruksi Citra Electrical Tomography dengan Pendekatan Bayesian untuk Deteksi Dini Breast Cancer” has successfully secured funding for the 2025 PKM program. An online Progress Assessment of the 2025 PKM Program Implementation took place at the Mathematics Laboratory of the FMIPA University of Jember on October 24th. “We will deliver a presentation to assess the progress of the PKM program, particularly the research results conducted by the team,” said M. Ziaul Arif, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., the PKM RE FMIPA supervisor. He added that the team had prepared a research presentation with guidance from the UNEJ PKM task force and the Student Affairs Department at the University of Jember.

The “Breast Cancer” RE PKM team consists of Fyoliena Yolandha from Mathematics as team leader, Faiza Nuril Husna and Umi Khoifatus Sholihah also from Mathematics, and Ulul ‘Azmi and Mohammad Setiawan Wibisono from Faculty of Computer Science (FASILKOM). Fyoliena Yolandha, as she is familiarly known, stated that early detection of breast cancer is key to increasing a patient’s chances of recovery. “Through this PKM, we developed an optimized reconstruction of Electrical Tomography (ET) images using a Bayesian approach to help detect breast cancer early more quickly, accurately, and affordably,” she explained. Using the Bayesian method in ET can improve the quality of internal breast images. Continue reading
