Two Students from Department of Chemistry, FMIPA UNEJ will compete at National Level ONMIPA-PT

Novian Rico Saputra and Masrurotul Alfiah, students of the University of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Department of Chemistry will compete in Olimpiade Nasional Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam Perguruan Tinggi (ONMIPA-PT) on June 13-17 2023 offline at Institut Teknologi Bandung. “ONMIPA is a prestigious event, the selection stages that must be passed require us to face tens of thousands of internal students, and thousands more selected students from all campuses at regional level,” said Novian Rico Saputra.

Rico said that this was the second time he had participated in a similar event at national level. Through the assistance of lecturer who work in synergy with the Department of Chemistry, it is hoped that they will get the best achievements in the national arena. “As an ONMIPA-PT delegate in the field of chemistry, I am very proud to be able to represent FMIPA University of Jember and will try to give the best achievement,” he hoped. Ian Jones from Australia, Present at FMIPA UNEJ to Explore Cooperation and Nostalgia

Ian Jones from Australia came back to the University of Jember FMIPA like a father visiting his child (7/6). “Year 1991 saw a new MIPA building being erected and now when it is back again it is truly amazing how fast it is developing,” joke Ian Jones who is a consultant for the establishment of MIPA from IDP (International Development Program). Together with colleagues from the University of Jember, Ian Jones discussed the establishment of MIPA, from the establishment plan to holding several workshop.

Present on the occasion was the Vice Rector III, University of Jember, Prof. Bambang Kuswandi, Former Rector of the University of Jember 2003-2011 Dr. T. Sutikto, Dean of FMIPA UNEJ, Vice Deans, Chief Secretary of Department at FMIPA and old colleague Ian Jones who played a role in the founding of MIPA. “With developments like this, I am willing to facilitate MIPA with my former office,” said the man who really loves the natural beauty and culture of Indonesia. Early June 2023, FMIPA reopened the Canteen with a New Place and View

After experiencing suspended animation for some time, the FMIPA Canteen was reopened (5/6). “As of today, the FMIPA canteen is reopened with a new place and atmosphere,” said Purwatiningsih, S.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D. Vice Dean II FMIPA UNEJ in his remarks at the assembly Monday morning. The new canteen is on the east side of the FMIPA Mosque and the ORMAWA building. The canteen is made open so that air circulation is maintained. “On the side that is connected to the ORMAWA building, there is also a drink stall which is an extension of the previous room,” she continued.

At the beginning of opening, visitors who were dominated by students invaded the FMIPA Canteen which served a menu of dry/wet chicken noodles, instant noodles, glass noodles and meatballs. “The menu is friendly to our student pockets, moreover it’s clean and there are power plugs available,” said one of the student visitors. The FMIPA canteen also provides electrical sockets so that visitors can feel at home shopping while completing tasks with a laptop or charging their cell phone. Continue reading

Hidayat Teguh Wiyono, a Biology Lecturer who Invented the Super Longan, has retired

Dr. Hidayat Teguh Wiyono, M.Pd. who is fondly called Mr. Teguh as of June 1, 2023 tomorrow will enter his retirement period. Pak Teguh’s work as a teacher and researcher in the Department of Biology FMIPA UNEJ is not in doubt. Until the end of his service, he was still actively discussing with the leaders of the Sentool plantation partners of MBKM FMIPA, especially longan development (30/5). “Today is the end of his servant. Pak Teguh remains enthusiastic about the discussion and inquires about the development of longan in the Sentool plantation,” said Vice Dean I FMIPA UNEJ Drs. Siswoyo, M.Sc., Ph.D. It can be seen that longan trees are increasingly thriving around the plantation area, which originated from seeds researched by Mr. Teguh.

Indeed, apart from being a lecturer, Mr. Teguh is active in researching longans, so he is usually called Longan Mantri. He managed to develop a super longan. which started with concern about the local Jember longan plant which at first only grew without fruit. With a special ingredient from Mr. Teguh and then packaged in the form of fertilizer, it was able to produce thicker, sweeter longan fruit and smaller seeds. Continue reading

Through Theme of Moss as Anticancer, FMIPA UNEJ Student Team won Silver at NICYMS 2023

Again, FMIPA University of Jember Team made scientific work achievements at national level, namely National Invention Competition for Young Moslem Scientists or NICYMS 2023 (25-26/5). The silver medal was the result of the team’s hard work with theme of Dumortiera hirsuta’s Moss Heart as Anticancer. The routine agenda initiated by the Indonesian Young Scientist Association (IYSA) and Sunan Gunung Djati State Islamic University (UIN) Bandung will take place in a hybrid manner this year. “We took part in the Pure Science – Biology category from several categories that were contested at the event which were joined by some of the best universities in Indonesia,” said Abdillah Maulana Farhan as team leader.

The FMIPA team consisted of Abdillah Maulana Farhan, Selly Hervianingsih Ramadhani, Kaysha Rahmadita Widyadana, Amalia Ayu Pratiwi from Biology and Nur Diana Holida from Mathematics. They were equipped and guided by Biology Lecturer Dr.rer.nat Fuad Bahrul Ulum, S.Si, M.Sc. “We have prepared this competition carefully with effort and hard work in order to achieve the desired achievement, winning a medal,” he continued. After Ramadhan and Eid, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences is back to Organizing Apel Senin

Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember, Drs. Achmad Sjaifullah, M.Sc., Ph.D. led the first rally after some time not being held due to month of Ramadan and Eid holiday (15/5). “Alhamdulillah, we can carry out the routine assembly every Monday, after Ramadhan and Eid al-Fitr last week because there is a 2023 SNBT UTBK,” he said in begin of Apel. The Dean also said this routine agenda was a forum for conveying the latest information, achievements and targets from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The rally was attended by the entire academic community from elements of lecturers and education staff with officers who rotated every week.

“In this month and next we will lose a few days due to holidays, so we ask the lecturers to immediately adjust their lectures before holding the final semester exams,” he continued. The dean also mentioned the process of applying for ranks from lecturers and laboratory staff including professors who are now entering their final stages after an extension of time. The process has been prepared since the beginning of last year, with assistance for the process of collecting credit scores and their files. Continue reading
