Dr. Artoto Arkundato, Physics Lecturer, FMIPA UNEJ, Wins Top Collaborator with BRIN

Dr. Artoto Arkundato, S.Si., M.Si., a lecturer from the Physics Department at FMIPA, received the “Top Collaborator” award for his work with BRIN (Indonesian National Research and Innovation Agency). The award certificate was presented to BRIN’s Laksana Tri Handoko, who also gave a public lecture on November 18th. The theme of the lecture was “Building a Smart and Character-driven Research Collaboration Ecosystem for Indonesia’s Golden Future.” The lecture was attended by Iwan Taruna, the Rector of Universitas Jember (UNEJ), along with BRIN officials who also presented various topics, including the Director of Talent Management, the Deputy for Research and Innovation Facilitation, the Manager of the Collaboration Platform, and the Director of Research and Innovation Funding.

During the event, BRIN also awarded recognition to the Rector of UNEJ for being among the top 24 collaborators out of 147 BRIN partners. In addition, 123 authors from Universitas Jember and 75 scholarly outputs were also recognized. Iwan Taruna, in his speech, encouraged lecturers to keep innovating in research through research groups. “We share the same focus on research with BRIN, so let’s continue to improve this collaboration, even with other government institutions,” he said. He emphasized that, besides the equipment available, UNEJ researchers can continue to innovate and seek funding not only from ministries but also from other agencies like BRIN. Continue reading

Prof. Krishna Persaud from The University of Manchester visits FMIPA, University of Jember

FMIPA Universitas Jember received a visit from Prof. Krishna Persaud, Ph.D., from The University of Manchester (28/10). Accompanied by Prof. Drs. Bambang Kuswandi, M.Sc., Ph.D., Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Information Systems, UNEJ, they met with the Head of Deanship and Head of the FMIPA Department. “Prof. Krishna is present at UNEJ, especially FMIPA, to share his research experience, and we have the opportunity to join him,” began Prof. Bambang’s speech while officially opening the discussion event. The University of Manchester is a merger of Victoria University of Manchester and the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST).

“He has done a lot of research in several countries, both in Europe and Asia, and I hope UNEJ, in this case FMIPA, can join in his research,” continued Prof. Bambang. A similar thing was also conveyed by the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., who welcomed the arrival of Prof. Krishna to encourage FMIPA lecturers to do joint research. “Prof. Krishna has a very good track record, as can be seen from his Scopus, so I invite lecturers to join in his research,” invited Prof. Dafik, who is also an alumnus of UMIST. FMIPA UNEJ Holds The Second International Basic Science Conference (IBSC) 2024

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember, held the Second International Basic Science Conference, or IBSC 2024 (8/10). Held in the 3rd floor of the UNEJ Entrepreneurship Building, this year the theme was “AI at the Frontier of Natural Sciences: Trends and Future Directions.” Presenting keynote speakers: Prof. Dr. Ismail Naci CANGÜL from Bursa Uludag University, Turkey; Dr. S. Stalin from SASTRA Deemed to be University, India; Prof. Dr. Ing. Hendro Wicaksono from Constructor University Bremen gGmbH, Germany; and Dr. M. Kamaraj from SRM Institute of Science and Technology, India. The 2nd IBSC 2024 was held in a hybrid manner, attended by 53 participants, and Dr. M. Kamaraj from India was present at UNEJ to provide material.

The 2nd IBSC 2024 was officially opened by Prof. Drs. Bambang Kuswandi, M.Sc., Ph.D., Vice Rector of UNEJ for planning, cooperation, and information systems. In his speech, Prof. Bambang said that IBSC is a conference to disseminate knowledge, interact with experts, and strengthen professional networks. “IBSC is a forum for discussion and sharing to support the advancement of science and technology,” he said. It is hoped that the output of the conference discussing the theme of artificial intelligence will be able to make natural science the forefront of future trends and directions of research. Chemistry FMIPA UNEJ Holds 6th International Conference on Chemistry and Material Science (IC2MS) 2024

The Chemistry Department of FMIPA UNEJ held the International Conference on Chemistry and Material Sciences (IC2MS) 2024 in collaboration with Brawijaya University, Malang State University, and Mara Technology University (25-26/9). The theme raised was “Sustainable Chemistry and Material Sciences for a Better Life.” Taking place at the Soetardjo Building, Jember University presented keynote speakers from abroad and within the country. Prof. Spas D Kolev from Australia, Prof. Ts Dr.-Ing. Oskar Hasdinor Hassan from Malaysia, Prof. Yun-Hi Kim from Korea, Dr. Verawat Champreda from Thailand, Prof. Brian Yuliarto from Taking place at and Prof. Bambang Kuswandi as the host of Jember University.

The 6th IC2MS 2024 also presents 10 invited speakers, namely Dr.Sc. Lukman Hakim from UB, Prof. Surjani Wonorahardjo from UM, Assoc. Prof. ChM. Dr. Noraini Ahmad and Dr. Umi Marshida Abd. from Korea, Eko Setio Wibowo, Ph.D. from BRIN, Dr. Anton Prasetyo from UIN MMI Malang, and Prof. Anak Agung Istri Ratnadewi, representative of the Chemistry Department, FMIPA UNEJ. In addition to the seminar, the 6th IC2MS 2024 held a workshop with the theme “Exploring Chemical Space with DataWarrior: Unveiling the Universe of Molecular Possibilities.”.

Guest Lecture of Biology Department, FMIPA UNEJ Presents Two Professors from Germany

The Department of Biology, FMIPA UNEJ, held a guest lecture related to biomedicine and machine learning (25/4). Two professors from Germany were present, namely Prof. Dr. Thiru. Velavan from Universitätsklinikum Tübingen and Prof. Dr. Claus-Thomas Bock of the Robert Koch-Institut, Berlin. The guest lecture was opened directly by the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D. Followed by the presentation of souvenirs from FMIPA to the two professors from Germany. Next, Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Kartika Senjarini, S.Si., M.Si., introduces the two processors as collaborators on the Global PACE-UP project, Expert Seminar. The guest lecture session was moderated by Dr.rer.nat. Fuad Bahrul Ulum, S.Si., M.Sc., by inviting Prof. Velavan to start the first speech session.

Prof. Velava presented for one hour two main topics, namely research on the inventory of mosquitoes as carriers of arboviruses with the title “Spatial and temporal distribution of vectors and associated arboviruses in Vietnam” and material from Tran Duc Khan regarding artificial intelligence for mosquito identification with the title “Mosquito Identification using Deep Learning and Multispectral Aerial Imagery Dataset for Water Body Detection.” Prof. Velavan touched on many types of mosquitoes in Vietnam and pointed out that the types of mosquitoes found in subtropical areas or the northern side of Vietnam are different from the types often found in the southern region of Vietnam, which has a tropical climate. Halal bi Halal Eid al-Fitr 1445 H Big Family of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember

“Ramadan has passed; hopefully we will be forgiven, all sins will be erased, and we can be reunited with Ramadhan next year,” began the lecture of the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., in the Halal bi Halal event for the Big Family of FMIPA UNEJ (23/4). In his lecture, the dean touched on faith and sincerity when welcoming and carrying out worship in the month of Ramadan. “To get maghfiroh, you need faith accompanied by sincerity, because fasting is a direct matter with Allah SWT, so sincerity is the main capital, not for something and for something in carrying it out,” he continued.

It is also said that sincerity is more difficult than istiqomah because sincerity glorifies the name of Allah SWT. “So even though we are ignored by people, we are still willing to do something for the sake of Allah; that is a very noble act,” said the dean in front of FMIPA residents and also the retired staff present. Until researchers from America raised sincerity in a study entitled Six Pillars of Character, which includes several characters, including trustworthiness, which includes sincerity, which means sincerity.
