Mila Hidayatul Aula, a Master of Physics student at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jakarta (UNEJ), and ten other participants received full scholarships. She outperformed more than 220 applicants from 20 countries who registered for the [in]Visible Power Female Leadership Camp program, held from September 21-29, 2025, in Obninsk and Moscow. Mila, along with participants from 20 countries, had the opportunity to learn leadership, public communication, and career development strategies in science and technology. She believes this global insight will have a significant impact on the world of research in Indonesia. “I personally want to encourage international research collaborations focused on the safe and sustainable use of nuclear energy,” said Mila.

Mila said honesty and self-reflection in her motivational essay were key to her success. “The committee wants to know not only what we have achieved, but also the reasons behind it,” she continued. Research and scientific communication help demonstrate that participants must have a passion for playing an active role and inspiring others. Mila also had the opportunity to learn leadership, public communication, and career development strategies in science and technology. Mila believes this global insight will have a significant impact on the research world in Indonesia in general and her alma mater, the University of Jember, in particular. Mila encourages women to boldly step out of their comfort zones to broaden their global perspectives. Continue reading

Visiting Professor Prof. Dr. rer.nat. Muhammad Farchani Rosyid, M.Sc., from UGM Yogyakarta

In a series of 27th birthday parties of the Faculty of Science and 61st birthday parties of the University of Jember. The Department of Physics FMIPA organized a visitor professor presenting Prof. Dr. rer.nat. Muhammad Farchani Rosyid, M.Si. from the Department of Physics, FMIPA, UGM (22/10). Taking up the topic of “THE HISTORY OF GRAVITATION”, the event was formally opened by the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D. In his welcome the Dean said today’s event was special because it brought a professor from UGM who would deliver a lecture on the history of gravity. “It will discuss the development of the concept of gravity, starting from Aristotle who believed objects fall because they return to their natural place, to Galileo who proved all objects fall in the same way without hindrance,” he said in FMIPA’s Physics Auditorium.

Prof. Dafik said Einstein developed a theory of general relativity that explained gravity as the curvature of space-time by mass, as well as predicting phenomena such as gravitational waves. “And that the concept of balance in the universe has been mentioned in the Qur’an, Surah Al-Mulk verses 3-4, which shows the relationship between science and religious belief,” he continued. The Dean also invited as well as Prof. Veerabhadriah Lokesha from India and Prof. Sudrajat Supian, M.Sc., Ph.D. from the University of Padjajaran. Earlier, the welcoming speech was also delivered by the Chairman of the Department of Physics FMIPA Dr. Agus Suprianto, S.Si., M.T. who is also a fellow speaker during his doctoral studies at UGM Yogyakarta. Dr. Lutfi Rohman Explains the Cause of the Cold Temperatures Hitting Jember, Disrupting Residents’ Activities

Residents of Jember Regency have been experiencing unusually high temperatures over the past few days. The temperature dropped drastically to 19 degrees Celsius in the morning. This cold phenomenon has disrupted residents’ daily activities. Responding to this phenomenon, Dr. Luffi Rohman, a Lecturer in Master’s Degree in Physics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), explained that the cold temperatures are caused by two main factors: the Earth’s position at aphelion (the point furthest from the sun) and the still-high rainfall. “When the Earth is at aphelion, the distance between the Earth and the sun reaches its maximum, so the amount of solar radiation received is reduced. On the other hand, high humidity from rain also amplifies the cooling effect on the surface,” he explained.

He explained that this cold temperature generally occurs in the middle of the year and is a natural phenomenon, but it still requires vigilance regarding its impact on public health. Aphelion itself is a point in the Earth’s elliptical orbit around the sun, where the distance between the Earth and the sun reaches approximately 152 million kilometers, compared to the perihelion point (closest distance) of only about 147 million kilometers. “The still-high rainfall in the Jember region contributes to increased air humidity, which amplifies the cooling effect. The combination of low solar radiation and high humidity creates cooler temperatures than usual,” Lutfi continued. Continue reading
