Dean of FMIPA UNEJ Drs. Achmad Sjaifullah, M.Sc., Ph.D., signed a collaboration with the Indonesia Ecotourism Network (INDECON), which was personally attended by Indriani Setiawati, S.Si., as Chairman of the Foundation (16/8). “This relationship is increasingly expanding the scope of collaboration that FMIPA is doing; together with INDECON, we will share a lot of knowledge about ecotourism as well as community-based tourism,” said the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ. It was also conveyed that INDECON, which has 25 years of experience, can become a partner in Tridharma Higher Education activities, especially nature conservation through ecotourism.
During the meeting, two faculties at UNEJ also signed a collaboration agreement with INDECON. Prof. Drs. Antonius Cahya Prihandoko, M.App.Sc., Ph.D., Dean of FASILKOM UNEJ, and Dr. Djoko Poernomo, M.Si. The Dean of FISIP UNEJ also agreed to collaborate with INDECON. “It is possible for other faculties to join hands with us with INDECON because they have similarities in realizing higher education’s Tridharma activities,” continued the Dean, who was accompanied by Deputy Deans who are also FMIPA Biology lecturers.
Indriani Setiawati, S.Si., expressed gratitude for being able to work together with three faculties at UNEJ that have the same chemistry as INDECON. “We have collaborated a lot with several organizations, and today with FMIPA, FASILKOM, and FISIP, it is also possible with others after we are in the process of implementing this collaboration,” he said. INDECON, founded in 1995, is an organization that focuses on developing and promoting ecotourism in Indonesia. Mrs. Indri, as she is affectionately called, also listened to several activities with FMIPA partners, including the Sentool village, which was also worked on together with the faculties and institutions at UNEJ.
Dr. Kahar Muzakhar, S.Si., Biology FMIPA lecturer who was present, also said that in the future, starting from this collaboration, other faculties could develop culture or learn about forest protection. Dr. Hari Sulistiyowati, M.Sc., Ph.D., who is a lecturer who often comes into contact with nature, said there are many potential places that INDECON can work on together. “There are lots of places around Jember that can be used for ecotourism through the INDECON collaboration involving UNEJ lecturers and students, especially FMIPA,” he said.
Vice Dean I of FMIPA, Drs. Siswoyo, M.Sc., Ph.D., also hopes that with the addition of partners, there will be more opportunities for students to carry out BKP MBKM. “Adding partners will widen the options for our students to take BKP and MKBM, which of course can be converted to credits,” he said. Siswoyo said that Sentool village, which started with only one BKP, developed into several activities and was able to absorb students to be involved in MBKM.
Cooperation with INDECON has a duration of 5 (five) years until 2028 with the scope of sustainable ecotourism and tourism development such as tourism village assistance, marketing development and the like; organizing joint HR development activities such as certification, training, workshops, seminars and the like; organizing joint tourism scientific activities such as scientific conferences, summer schools / field schools , short courses and the like; exchange of resource persons, experts and information; student work practices/ apprenticeship activities; providing access to joint research activities and publication of travel articles; implementation of community-based tourism development programs ( community-based tourism).) other; and absorb, accept graduate students.
