Journal of Science and Technology Innovation for Society (InSTEM) Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Jember University held a workshop towards SINTA Accreditation in the Physics Auditorium (17/7). With the theme Strategi Pengelolaan Jurnal Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat InSTEM Menuju Akreditasi SINTA” Fahmi Arif Kurnianto, S.Pd., M.Pd., Chief Editor of Geosfera Indonesia, Fahmi now also serves as chairman of the Jember University Journal House. Geosfera Indonesia is a SINTA-2-accredited journal. Present and open the InSTEM journal workshop with Purwatiningsih, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., as Vice Dean II of FMIPA, who is also Chief Editor of the Jurnal ILMU DASAR, as well as several journal editors within FMIPA UNEJ, such as the CERiMRE, ICL, JEI, and LSB journals.
Fahmi shared several experiences of managing the Geosfera Indonesia journal until he was able to achieve SINTA 2. “In this initial material, I will share the story of managing a journal from pre-review, copyediting to preparing to publish an issue from the OJS side as well as the substance of the article,” he said. The lecturer at the Geography Education Study Program, FKIP, Jember University also provided several ways for the InSTEM journal to achieve SINTA, which is a service journal. This includes improving the quality of journal management to increase value at ARJUNA. “To overcome the novelty that usually occurs in research journals, InSTEM must improve the quality of its journal management so that it can achieve maximum value,” he continued.
The resource person has implemented this strategy because the Geosfera Indonesia journal has a fairly wide scope so that by maximizing management it can increase the value of ARJUNA. Several participants from unaccredited journal editors asked about the framework for improving the quality of articles. Fahmi mentioned the importance of checking at the beginning of incoming articles. “We have to check similarity, suitability of scope, writers from outside the institution, writing references with good up-to-dateness will influence the quality of the article,” he said.
Previously, Dr. Sutisna Editor-in-Chief InSTEM expressed his gratitude for the willingness of Fahmi Arif Kurnianto, S.Pd., M.Pd. to share knowledge about journal management towards SINTA accreditation. “Our journal InSTEM is a journal that was initially established to accommodate service at FMIPA, but we are optimistic that we can achieve SINTA accreditation, so accompany us on how to manage a good journal according to Mr. Fahmi’s experience,” he said. Purwatiningsih, Ph.D. Vice Dean II who represented the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ to open the workshop said that this opportunity could be used by journal managers at FMIPA to gain knowledge in journal management. “FMIPA has 7 journals, 2 have been accredited and the other 5 have not. Our hope is that those who have not yet been accredited can have their SINTA upgraded,” she hoped.
Continued with the InSTEM journal review session in preparation for SINTA accreditation in the SCL room of the Physics Department. By referring to self-evaluation in the ARJUNA application, Fahmi provides input so that he can achieve the full results as expected by InSTEM. “We are trying to fill in ARJUNA’s self-evaluation based on the current condition of InSTEM and it can be optimized in the next publication,” he explained. The InSTEM editorial team followed carefully and also noted several changes that needed to be made according to suggestions from the presenters. The results obtained lead to SINTA 3, of course with improvements that must be made before submitting InSTEM journal accreditation.
