The Chemistry Department at FMIPA UNEJ surprised Drs. Achmad Sjaifullah, M.Sc., Ph.D., the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ for the 2020-2024 term, during his retirement event. The ceremony was held in the Chemistry Department’s lecture hall, and several FMIPA leaders attended the surprise. Dean Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., and the Vice Deans thanked Mr. Sjaifullah for his dedication to FMIPA. Prof. Dafik also wished him good health and hoped his knowledge would be a lasting blessing.
Prof. Dr. Anak Agung Istri Ratnadewi, S.Si., M.Si., Head of the Chemistry Department, shared that Mr. Sjaifullah retired happily and hoped their relationship would remain strong. Also present were his colleagues from the early days of FMIPA, like Mr. Neran, who also retired earlier. Several Chemistry faculty members took turns sharing their thoughts and experiences with Mr. Sjaifullah. The ceremony started with a beautiful Banyuwangi dance, a tradition from Mr. Sjaifullah’s home region, performed by Chemistry students.
Drs. Siswoyo, M.Sc., Ph.D., a Chemistry lecturer, recalled how Mr. Sjaifullah always paid extra attention to students, especially during practical sessions, where he was always present in the lab. Suwardiyanto, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., also shared that Mr. Sjaifullah always focused on ensuring students received proper support, especially in the laboratory.
Drh. Wuryanti Handayani, M.Si., a colleague who also retired a few months ago, agreed with the Head of Chemistry, expressing her hope that Mr. Sjaifullah would continue to stay active and avoid becoming inactive in retirement. Drs. Sudarko, Ph.D., also mentioned that Mr. Sjaifullah was an honest person, and he supported him when he ran for the FMIPA leadership position to improve the institution.
Ika Oktavianawati, S.Si., M.Sc., a colleague in the same field as Mr. Sjaifullah, expressed her deepest gratitude and respect, saying she considered him like a parent and learned a lot from him, especially in teaching. In his speech, Mr. Sjaifullah expressed surprise and deep gratitude for the heartfelt event, not expecting such a grand celebration for his retirement.
He thanked the Chemistry Department for organizing the event as a special gift and apologized if he had ever made any mistakes during his career. He also proudly mentioned how honored he was to be part of the Chemistry Department. Colleagues, students, and alumni gave him farewell gifts, and the event closed with a traditional rice cutting ceremony and a group photo.
