Department of Chemistry at the FMIPA UNEJ, Hosts Expert from UiTM Malaysia to Discuss Innovations in Synthetic Chemistry for Modern Drug Development

The Department of Chemistry at the FMIPA UNEJ, hosted a hybrid guest lecture on October 16, creating a space for the exchange of scientific knowledge with an international academic. Titled “Synthetic Chemistry: Driving Innovation in Drug Discovery and Pharmaceutical Development,” the event part of the Diaspora Berdampak 2026 featured ChM Dr. Agustono Wibowo from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia, as the guest speaker. Participants, particularly students from the Department of Chemistry, had the opportunity to gain the latest insights into the role of synthetic chemistry in drug discovery and the pharmaceutical industry.

The guest lecture was opened by the Vice Dean I of the FMIPA UNEJ, Prof. Dra. Commercializing FMIPA UNEJ Innovations: Bridging AI Technology from Campus to Industry with NTU Singapore

FMIPA UNEJ is strengthening its role as a bridge between academia and industry through the commercialization of research-based innovations. This commitment is demonstrated by facilitating a visit to CV Kanaka Indoutama (Kana Factory) in Situbondo accompanied by Assoc. Prof. Zaher M. A. Judeh from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore to introduce AI PharmaSolver, an artificial intelligence (AI)-based platform developed by NTU. Designed as a solution for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, this initiative aims to bring campus-based innovations into practical application to address industry challenges.

In his presentation, Assoc. Prof. Zaher explained that PharmaSolver was developed to assist the decision-making process through an integrated scientific approach. “This platform supports the systematic execution of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Quality Risk Assessment (QRA), as well as the formulation of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA),” he explained. Through simulations of case studies faced by the company, Kana Factory recognized that AI could be leveraged to identify root causes, evaluate risks, and generate more effective and efficient resolution recommendations. International Guest Lecture 2026 Features NTU Singapore Expert, Strengthening International Collaboration and Chemical Research Innovation

FMIPA UNEJ, in collaboration with LPMPP UNEJ, hosted the “International Guest Lecture 2026” in a hybrid format at the FMIPA Physics Department Auditorium as part of efforts to strengthen the academic atmosphere and international cooperation networks (October 1). The event opened with remarks from the Head of LPMPP, Prof. Dr. Ermanto Fahamsyah, S.H., M.H., who emphasized the importance of university internationalization through academic collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the enhancement of teaching and research quality. “Academic forums featuring international experts serve as one of the University of Jember’s strategies to improve the quality of higher education and global competitiveness,” he stated.

The Department of Chemistry at FMIPA UNEJ Hosts NTU Singapore Expert to Discuss AI-Driven Adaptive Learning Transformation via EDUARA

The Department of Chemistry at the FMIPA, UNEJ, hosted a discussion session titled “EDUARA: Building an AI-Powered, Adaptive, and Evidence-Informed Learning Ecosystem,” featuring Assoc. Prof. Zaher M.A. Judeh from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, as the speaker (September 30). The event served as a platform for sharing insights on the transformation of higher education in the era of artificial intelligence (AI) and was attended by lecturers from FMIPA and FKIP, as well as high school teachers from Jember. The session was opened by the Head of the Department of Chemistry, Prof. Dr. Anak Agung Istri Ratnadewi, S.Si., M.Si. In his presentation, Assoc. Prof. Zaher began the discussion by addressing “Forecast 2030: Lecturer’s Role in the Age of AI.”

“The role of the lecturer is shifting from a mere deliverer of material to a learning facilitator capable of leveraging AI to create a more personalized, adaptive, and evidence-informed learning experience,” he explained. Furthermore, participants were introduced to the EDUARA concept, covering everything from competency mapping and difficulty levels to the setting of competitive learning outcome targets. “EDUARA will support lecturers in developing course materials, automatically generating questions and assessments, and utilizing AI for faster, more objective grading processes,” he added. 20 UNEJ Students Participate in the 2026 ONMIPA-PT Regional Selection at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember

The regional selection for the 2026 National Olympiad of Mathematics and Natural Sciences for Higher Education (ONMIPA-PT) was held at the Mathematics Laboratory 1, Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember (UNEJ) (May 5-6). “Twenty UNEJ students, consisting of 13 from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, 6 from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, and 1 from the Faculty of Medicine, participated in the OMIPA-PT regional selection to secure a ticket to the national level at UNAIR Surabaya in June 2026,” said Prof. Dr. Edy Supriyanto, S.Si., M.Si. The Vice Dean III of FMIPA UNEJ, who was in attendance, provided direct support. The UNEJ delegation participated in the online selection according to the fields of competition: mathematics and chemistry in the morning session, and biology and physics in the afternoon session

Nindha Ayu Berlianti, S.Pd., S.Si., M.Si., one of the mentors for the ONMIPA-PT UNEJ delegation, stated that the participants participating in the regional selection were selected from the university-level selection process several weeks ago. “This year, we conducted the university-level selection process first, then provided coaching to the 20 students who passed to participate in the regional selection process,” she explained. The successful participants then received intensive coaching at the C-RiSSH UNEJ Building. “Before the regional selection process, system testing and tryouts were conducted. This year’s competition is different from previous years, as we use the SEB application, access keys for both mathematics and physics, and we have our own proctors,” she continued. FMIPA UNEJ Holds Chemistry Guest Webinar Series #1 Discussing Biomass Biotechnology and Prebiotics

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at the University of Jember, through the Department of Chemistry, held Chemistry Guest Webinar Series #1 (6/3). The theme was the development of plant biomass biotechnology and prebiotic development. The event featured Prof. Dr. Sehanat Prasongsuk from the Department of Botany, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. In his opening remarks, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., Dean of FMIPA UNEJ, stated that plant biomass utilization and biorefinery development are important topics in supporting sustainable resource management. He believes that research in this area plays a significant role in driving the development of bioeconomy-based industries in the future.

“Plant biomass utilization and biorefinery development are highly relevant to global efforts to develop environmentally friendly technologies and sustainable resources to support future industries,” he said. The Dean hopes that FMIPA can broaden the academic horizons of its academic community while strengthening international research collaboration networks, particularly in the fields of plant biomass biotechnology and the development of prebiotic-based health products. “We hope this activity will not only enrich academic perspectives but also serve as the first step in realizing research collaborations that will have a real impact on society,” he concluded.
