Mathematics Department, FMIPA UNEJ with IndoMS East Java Region holds 14th Webinar Series

The Mathematics Department of FMIPA UNEJ, together with the Indonesian Mathematical Society (IndoMS) of East Java region, held a webinar series (26/10). Raising the theme “Application of Mathematics, Science, and Technology in Optimization in the Industrial Environment” with resource person M. Ziaul Arif, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D. lecturer in the Mathematics Study Program, FMIPA, University of Jember. The webinar was attended by participants representing approximately 25 universities throughout Indonesia. As conveyed by Dr. Kiswara Agung Santoso, S.Si., M.Kom. as the chairman of the committee. The webinar is held once a month by IndoMS in its role of echoing mathematics.

This was stated by Dr. Noor Hidayat, M.Si., Governor of IndoMS East Java, in his speech. “IndoMS is a professional organization that has a desire to spread mathematics to the wider community, not only for members with a monthly webinar series,” he said. Dr. Noor also said that the webinar topic that raises the application of mathematics is one way to introduce mathematics to the real world. Present was the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember, who is also the President of IndoMS, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., to officially open the 14th webinar series.

Prof. Dafik expressed his appreciation to IndoMS East Java and the Mathematics Department of FMIPA, who were able to collaborate to introduce mathematics to the public through the webinar series media. “In the future, mathematics will be increasingly needed and applied in the real world, such as learning such as machine learning known as artificial intelligence,” he said. With a core neural network that culminates in mathematics. “The presence of mathematics is very much needed by the world, and this webinar is very appropriate because it discusses its application in the real world,” he concluded.

M. Ziaul Arif, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., as a resource person delivered material that was the result of his research while studying at the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) Finland. “In this webinar, I will share the results of research during the study entitled Bayesian Method for inverse problems in the dual tomography system of two-phase flow,” he said. Ziaul said that there were several terms discussed, such as tomography, forward and inverse problems, two-phase flow, and dual systems. The delivery of the material was moderated by Abduh Riski, S.Si., M.Si. lecturer of Mathematics Department, FMIPA UNEJ.

He gave an example of tomography, which is applied in everyday life. “In the world of health, tomography is applied to CT scan, X-ray, and MRI,” he continued. Ziaul also showed simulations while working on his research. At the end of the webinar, Ziaul said the results of the research concluded an increase in accuracy with dual-modal tomography and progress in modeling and validation of experiments. “The application of mathematics in the future can go further towards agriculture and food processing,” he concluded. The webinar ended with a discussion with participants guided by a moderator.
