The Biology Department at FMIPA UNEJ, fostered an international-standard academic atmosphere by hosting a guest lecture featuring Dr. rer. nat. Dominik Harms, a researcher from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in Berlin, Germany. Dr. Dominik discussed research developments regarding Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), Hepatitis D Virus (HDV), and Hepatitis E Virus (HEV), covering topics ranging from epidemiology, pathogenic mechanisms, and virus-host cell interactions to disease management and control strategies. Centered on the theme “Epidemiology, Pathogenesis, and Management of HBV, HDV, and HEV” the event provided participants with insights into these viral hepatitis infections, which are matters of global concern.

It is noted that the three viruses possess distinct biological characteristics and infection mechanisms, necessitating specific approaches to research and management. “HBV can establish chronic infection through complex interactions with the immune system; HDV relies on the presence of HBV to replicate yet can exacerbate liver damage; and HEV is a major cause of acute hepatitis with diverse epidemiological characteristics,” he explained. Dr. Dominik emphasized the importance of understanding the relationship between the viruses and the body’s immune response as a foundation for developing more effective strategies for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Commercializing FMIPA UNEJ Innovations: Bridging AI Technology from Campus to Industry with NTU Singapore

FMIPA UNEJ is strengthening its role as a bridge between academia and industry through the commercialization of research-based innovations. This commitment is demonstrated by facilitating a visit to CV Kanaka Indoutama (Kana Factory) in Situbondo accompanied by Assoc. Prof. Zaher M. A. Judeh from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore to introduce AI PharmaSolver, an artificial intelligence (AI)-based platform developed by NTU. Designed as a solution for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, this initiative aims to bring campus-based innovations into practical application to address industry challenges.

In his presentation, Assoc. Prof. Zaher explained that PharmaSolver was developed to assist the decision-making process through an integrated scientific approach. “This platform supports the systematic execution of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Quality Risk Assessment (QRA), as well as the formulation of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA),” he explained. Through simulations of case studies faced by the company, Kana Factory recognized that AI could be leveraged to identify root causes, evaluate risks, and generate more effective and efficient resolution recommendations. Dean of the FMIPA UNEJ Opens SPORA CUP to Mark the Faculty’s 28th and the University’s 62nd Anniversary

Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., Dean of the FMIPA UNEJ, officially opened the faculty’s 28th-anniversary celebrations in the FMIPA parking area on October 2nd. The event kicked off with the “SPORA CUP 2026 AURORA” tournament. In his opening remarks, the Dean emphasized the importance of upholding sportsmanship during the competition. “Winning and losing are part of any match, but sportsmanship fostering mutual respect is paramount,” he advised. He noted that since there are always more losers than winners, acknowledging and respecting one another is essential in competition. FMIPA UNEJ and NTU Singapore Discuss AI Implementation for Future Learning and Research

FMIPA UNEJ further strengthened its international academic network by hosting a research discussion session featuring Assoc. Prof. Zaher M. A. Judeh from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, as the speaker (October 1). Held at the FMIPA Dean’s Office meeting room, the event was attended by heads of study programs within the faculty, as well as lecturers from various other faculties, including the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Agriculture. Moderated by M. Ziaul Arif, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., the discussion focused on the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support learning processes, assessment, and research development in higher education.

During the demo session, Prof. Zaher introduced Eduara, an AI-based learning platform designed to help lecturers manage the learning process more effectively and adaptively. “Through Eduara, lecturers can upload course materials, compile question banks with answers, and set question difficulty levels aligned with learning outcomes,” he explained. FMIPA UNEJ, in collaboration with LPMPP UNEJ, hosted the “International Guest Lecture 2026” in a hybrid format at the FMIPA Physics Department Auditorium as part of efforts to strengthen the academic atmosphere and international cooperation networks (October 1). The event opened with remarks from the Head of LPMPP, Prof. Dr. Ermanto Fahamsyah, S.H., M.H., who emphasized the importance of university internationalization through academic collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the enhancement of teaching and research quality. “Academic forums featuring international experts serve as one of the University of Jember’s strategies to improve the quality of higher education and global competitiveness,” he stated.

The Department of Chemistry at the FMIPA, UNEJ, hosted a discussion session titled “EDUARA: Building an AI-Powered, Adaptive, and Evidence-Informed Learning Ecosystem,” featuring Assoc. Prof. Zaher M.A. Judeh from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, as the speaker (September 30). The event served as a platform for sharing insights on the transformation of higher education in the era of artificial intelligence (AI) and was attended by lecturers from FMIPA and FKIP, as well as high school teachers from Jember. The session was opened by the Head of the Department of Chemistry, Prof. Dr. Anak Agung Istri Ratnadewi, S.Si., M.Si. In his presentation, Assoc. Prof. Zaher began the discussion by addressing “Forecast 2030: Lecturer’s Role in the Age of AI.”
