Biology Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UNEJ Holds the 6th ICOLIB 2025 and Partners with UPA PL2T UNEJ to Hold Plant Biotechnology Symposium

The Biology Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember held the 6th International Conference on Life Sciences and Biotechnology (ICOLIB) 2025 in a hybrid (17-18/10). ICOLIB is an international seminar scheduled every two years. The first ICOLIB was held in 2015, and 2025 is the sixth event. Taking the theme “Synergizing Biodiversity, Biotechnology, and Global Resilience for a Sustainable Future“. Held in the Natural Science and Food Technology (NSF) Hall, 4th floor of the IsDB Building, ICOLIB 2025 is also aligned with the Plant Biotechnology Symposium agenda by the UPA Waste Management and Integrated Laboratory of UNEJ.

The 6th ICOLIB 2025 was officially opened by Prof. Drs. Slamin, M.Comp.Sc., Ph.D., Vice Rector of the University of Jember for Academic Affairs by online. The Vice Rector I of UNEJ stated that the theme raised at ICOLIB 2025 is very relevant to the vision of the University of Jember, especially in supporting sustainable industrial agriculture. “The University of Jember is committed to becoming a living laboratory in the fields of agricultural science, tropical biology, and bio-based materials, and upholds the combination of global research and local wisdom,” he said. ICOLIB is not only a presentation event, but a space for collaboration, exchange of ideas, and the formation of international partnerships across disciplines. Biology Department, FMIPA, University of Jember Presents Biotechnology Expert Dr. M. Kamaraj from India

Department of Biology FMIPA UNEJ presents Dr. M. Kamaraj, Associate Professor and HoD of Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Science and Humanities Ramapuram Campus, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, India (9-11/10). A series of events for 3 days were officially opened by Dr. Retno Wimbaningrum, M.Si., as the Head of the Biology Department, FMIPA UNEJ. The first day began with a guest lecture agenda with the theme “Current biotechnology for environmental assessment and monitoring.” Moderated by Purwatiningsih, Ph.D., the lecture was attended by lecturers and biology students. “Biotechnology is changing the way we monitor and assess the environment using innovative, precise, and efficient tools,” began Dr. M. Kamaraj.

It is said that biotechnology is changing the way we monitor and assess the environment by offering innovative, precise, and efficient tools. “The application of this technology will improve sustainability efforts, encourage better resource management, and support environmental mitigation,” he continued. The guest lecture also provided an opportunity for discussion with participants. The next agenda item was a visit to the sub-labs in the Department of Biology such as ecology, zoology, botany, microbiology, and biotechnology. At the end of the first day’s agenda, Dr. M. Visitation of ASIIN International Accreditation for Undergraduate Biology Study Program FMIPA UNEJ

Department of Biologi, FMIPA and Master degree of Biotechnology University of Jember carried out ASIIN’s international accreditation visitation (15-16/12). The Akcreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik or ASIIN team held a meeting with the heads of institutions at UNEJ on the first day. The ASIIN Peer Group consists of Prof. Dr. Friedhelm Meinhardt, University of Muenster, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Nellen, Kassel University, Yayang Vionita, PT Cinquer Agro Nusantara, Fatima Qonita Nazihah, State University of Surabaya.

They are with ASIIN Office Dr. Iring Wasser heard presentations on university development, institution profiles, teaching studies. Jember University leadership also gave presentations on collaboration with stakeholders, perspective on resource development, institutional facilities, communication and coordination, study organization and management, teaching to students and quality management at the university level.
