Prof. Dafik, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember, Leads Morning Roll Call at the Beginning of 2026

Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., led the first morning roll call at the beginning of 2026 in the courtyard of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember (UNEJ) Dean’s Office (January 12th). The roll call officer was from the Biology Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember. In his address, the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences encouraged students to remain enthusiastic in carrying out their routine duties serving students in teaching and learning activities at the beginning of 2026. Earlier this year, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences was again strengthened by a professor from the Mathematics Department who completed his term. “My teacher, Prof. Kusno from the Mathematics Department, has returned to his active role as a lecturer at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences after serving for more than 10 years as Rector of the Mandalika University of Education (UNDIKMA) in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB),” he said.

He stated that Prof. Kusno has been active and will assist the Faculty in achieving its future goals. For lecturers, there’s good news from the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology. “Ministerial Regulation No. 52 of 2025 concerning the profession, career, and income of lecturers is good news for lecturers, improving their welfare and clarifying their career paths, especially for promotion,” he said. Prof. Dafik hopes that lecturers at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) will immediately prepare for the promotion process, especially for professors. We are encouraging the Faculty to have a large number of professors. The Faculty has identified lecturers who are senior lecturers to assist in the application process for professorship, in line with the direction of the Rector of UNEJ. Continue reading →

Guest Lecture on Statistics and Data Science in Business Competition Analysis by KPPU Commissioner Dr. Eugenia Mardanugraha

The importance of implementing a quantitative approach, including statistics and econometrics, in identifying and evaluating the behavior of business actors that have the potential to violate the principles of fair competition. Revealed by Dr. Eugenia Mardanugraha, S.Si., M.E. Commissioner of Komisi Pengawas Persaingan Usaha (KPPU) who is also a Lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia. In the guest lecture “Statistics and Data Science in Business Competition Analysis” held by the Data Science Research Group and MOCO, Department of Mathematics, FMIPA UNEJ (7/7). Dr. Eugenia also explained that Law No. 5 of 1999 is the basis for KPPU to prevent monopolistic practices, cartels, and unfair market control. The guest lecture was held offline at the UNEJ Entrepreneurship Building and online on the UNEJ FMIPA Youtube channel.

Previously at the opening, the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D. invited the participants to get to know KPPU and the role of statistics and data science in business competition. “It is an honor for FMIPA, Dr. Eugenia from KPPU is pleased to attend and give a guest lecture for lecturers, students, practitioners in reviewing the role of statistics and data science for business competition analysis,” he said. A similar thing was also conveyed by Dr. Kiswara Agung Santoso, S.Si. M.Kom. Data Science Research Group FMIPA UNEJ holds Book Review of Variable Selection

The Data Science Research Group (KeRis DSc) held a book discussion on Variable Selection in Predictive Modeling for Statistics and Machine Learning on December 2nd. The event featured Dr. Bagus Sartono, S.Si., M.Si., Chairman of FORSTAT and Head of the Statistics Department at IPB University, and Prof. Dr. Vita Ratnasari, S.Si., M.Si., a Professor of Statistics at the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology. The event was held at the UNEJ Entrepreneurship Building and was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at UNEJ and President of IndoMS, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D. In his speech, the Dean praised KeRis DSc for initiating the book discussion to promote a culture of mathematical literacy. “This is a very interesting book, discussing machine learning which will eventually lead to ‘black box’ models,” he said.

The Dean explained that the black box approach could speed up coding when developing application programs. “I hope this book discussion will be useful for the advancement of mathematics, especially statistics, and inspire other research groups in FMIPA,” he added. The book *Variable Selection* is written by Bagus Sartono, Alfian Futuhul Hadi, Evi Ramadhani, and Akbar Rizki. Prior to the discussion, Dr. Mohamat Fatekurohman, S.Si., M.Si., Chair of KeRis DSc, expressed his appreciation to the team for organizing the event in such a short time.
