Through Interactive Dialogue at RRI Jember, FMIPA, University of Jember Introduces Data Science Study Program

The development of digital technologies, artificial intelligence, to industrial needs for data processing is now increasing rapidly. Responding to the challenge, the University of Jember officially opened the Bachelor of Studies Program in Data Science under the auspices of the Faculty of MIPA for the intake of new students in 2026. The presence of this new study program marks a strategic step in preparing superior, adaptive, and competitively ready human resources in the era of global digital transformation. In an interactive dialogue with RRI Jember, the Bachelor of Data Science Course was peeled along with UNEJ Vice-Chancellor I, Dean of FMIPA, Head of the Department of Mathematics and teaching Lecturer of the Data Science Bachelor of Studies Programme.

Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs University of Jember, Prof. Slamin emphasized that the opening of the Data Science Faculty was not a sudden decision, but rather a result of the real needs of the industrial world and technological developments. “Data science is currently needed in almost all sectors of life.FMIPA becomes the most prepared faculty because it has resources in mathematics, statistics, and computer science,” he explained. According to him, UNEJ also has its own characteristics compared to other colleges, namely focusing on the development of agroindustry-based data analytics as per the vision of the university. 20 UNEJ Students Participate in the 2026 ONMIPA-PT Regional Selection at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember

The regional selection for the 2026 National Olympiad of Mathematics and Natural Sciences for Higher Education (ONMIPA-PT) was held at the Mathematics Laboratory 1, Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember (UNEJ) (May 5-6). “Twenty UNEJ students, consisting of 13 from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, 6 from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, and 1 from the Faculty of Medicine, participated in the OMIPA-PT regional selection to secure a ticket to the national level at UNAIR Surabaya in June 2026,” said Prof. Dr. Edy Supriyanto, S.Si., M.Si. The Vice Dean III of FMIPA UNEJ, who was in attendance, provided direct support. The UNEJ delegation participated in the online selection according to the fields of competition: mathematics and chemistry in the morning session, and biology and physics in the afternoon session

Nindha Ayu Berlianti, S.Pd., S.Si., M.Si., one of the mentors for the ONMIPA-PT UNEJ delegation, stated that the participants participating in the regional selection were selected from the university-level selection process several weeks ago. “This year, we conducted the university-level selection process first, then provided coaching to the 20 students who passed to participate in the regional selection process,” she explained. The successful participants then received intensive coaching at the C-RiSSH UNEJ Building. “Before the regional selection process, system testing and tryouts were conducted. This year’s competition is different from previous years, as we use the SEB application, access keys for both mathematics and physics, and we have our own proctors,” she continued. Continue reading

FMIPA UNEJ Opens Undergraduate Data Science Program, Preparing Superior Data Talent for the Future Agroindustry

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at the University of Jember officially opened the Undergraduate Data Science Program for the 2026/2027 Academic Year. Based on Decree No. 453/B/O/2026 from the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, the introduction of this new study program is a strategic step by FMIPA UNEJ to address the needs of the era of rapid development of digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and data-driven decision-making. Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., Dean of FMIPA UNEJ, stated that the opening of the Undergraduate Data Science Program is not simply the addition of a new study program, but rather FMIPA UNEJ’s commitment to preparing a superior generation capable of addressing global challenges.

“Today’s world is moving very quickly, with data as the primary foundation for decision-making. Therefore, FMIPA UNEJ presents the Undergraduate Data Science Program to prepare young talents who not only master theory but also are able to process data into real solutions for society and industry,” he said. According to him, the Data Science Undergraduate Program is designed with a core strength in the foundations of mathematics, statistics, and modern computing, which are the hallmarks of the FMIPA. FMIPA UNEJ and KPPU-RI Establish a Self-Managed Study Partnership and Institutional Synergy

FMIPA UNEJ and Komisi Pengawas Persaingan Usaha Republik Indonesia (KPPU-RI) established a partnership on a self-managed study and institutional synergy (April 17). Present were KPPU-RI Commissioner Dr. Eugenia Mardanugraha, S.Si., M.E., accompanied by the Director of Economics, the KPPU’s Public Relations Officer (PPK), the Head of the Surabaya Regional Office’s Research Division, and several staff members. The KPPU team was welcomed by Prof. Dr. Edy Supriyanto, S.Si., M.Si., the Vice Dean III representing the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ, accompanied by Dr. Alfian Futuhulhadi, S.Si., M.Si., and members of KeRis Data Science. The signing of the Cooperation Agreement was initiated by the KeRis Data Science Department of Mathematics, FMIPA, in the form of a Study on Refining Sample Design and Respondent Composition for the Business Competition Index.

In her remarks, KPPU-RI Commissioner Dr. Eugenia stated that this collaboration is a cross-disciplinary collaboration that supports the KPPU’s work program. “Law No. 5 of 1999 serves as the KPPU’s basis for preventing monopolistic practices, cartels, and unfair market dominance. Therefore, collaboration is needed to support economic transformation,” she said. She stated that the KPPU continues its fight to eradicate cartels, as evidenced by the recent fines imposed on 97 online lending companies. Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Graduation Ceremony, Term IX, 2025/2026 Academic Year

FMIPA UNEJ held the 84th Postgraduate (S2) and 118th Undergraduate (B2) Graduation Ceremony for the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Jember University, Term IX, 2025/2026 Academic Year (April 16). The ceremony took place in the Physics Department Auditorium, FMIPA, Jember University. In his graduation speech, the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., congratulated the graduates on their successful completion of their studies at FMIPA. He encouraged the graduates to prepare themselves to become creative graduates. “Use the knowledge gained during lectures to develop creative skills,” he began. FMIPA alumni should no longer simply wait for job openings; they should create their own opportunities, armed with useful knowledge and skills, so they can adapt to the wider community after graduation.

Prof. Dafik stated that FMIPA alumni have been equipped with fundamental knowledge to adapt to the needs of the times. “The current era is filled with AI, so FMIPA alumni who have mastered the basics are expected to be prepared with the skills they have to adapt, not just waiting for job openings, but creating their own opportunities,” he continued. Prof. Dafik advised the graduates to balance dhikr (remembrance of God) and meditation (contemplation) to prepare for life after graduating from FMIPA UNEJ. The Dean of FMIPA led an open meeting of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences senate, accompanied by the Vice Deans II and III of FMIPA. Halal bi Halal for Eid al-Fitr 1447 H, Family of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember

“Alhamdulillah, we can gather through halal bi halal after the holy month of Ramadan. May we receive forgiveness after a full month of worship and be reunited with Ramadan next year,” began the sermon by the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UNEJ, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., at the Halal bi Halal event for the FMIPA UNEJ Family (April 8). Held at the Baitul Ilmi Mosque, FMIPA UNEJ, the Dean touched on dhikr and reflection. After a month of worship, we continue to consistently remember Allah SWT. “It is our natural human nature to continually pray as an expression of our gratitude for the blessings Allah has given us, one of which is dhikr,” he said.

Prof. Dafik stated that by remembering Allah, we will always remember the Almighty. This will bring us peace, enabling us to better carry out our activities on campus. “The FMIPA Mosque is now more comfortable for worship. Amidst campus activities, we can quietly meditate on dhikr in the mosque,” he continued. Equally important, alongside dhikr is thinking. It forms a unity that can support our lives as we face the present and the future. The 1447 H Halal bi Halal gathering was attended by the entire FMIPA UNEJ academic community, as well as retired lecturers and educational staff.
