The Chemistry Department of FMIPA UNEJ held the International Conference on Chemistry and Material Sciences (IC2MS) 2024 in collaboration with Brawijaya University, Malang State University, and Mara Technology University (25-26/9). The theme raised was “Sustainable Chemistry and Material Sciences for a Better Life.” Taking place at the Soetardjo Building, Jember University presented keynote speakers from abroad and within the country. Prof. Spas D Kolev from Australia, Prof. Ts Dr.-Ing. Oskar Hasdinor Hassan from Malaysia, Prof. Yun-Hi Kim from Korea, Dr. Verawat Champreda from Thailand, Prof. Brian Yuliarto from Taking place at and Prof. Bambang Kuswandi as the host of Jember University.
The 6th IC2MS 2024 also presents 10 invited speakers, namely Dr.Sc. Lukman Hakim from UB, Prof. Surjani Wonorahardjo from UM, Assoc. Prof. ChM. Dr. Noraini Ahmad and Dr. Umi Marshida Abd. from Korea, Eko Setio Wibowo, Ph.D. from BRIN, Dr. Anton Prasetyo from UIN MMI Malang, and Prof. Anak Agung Istri Ratnadewi, representative of the Chemistry Department, FMIPA UNEJ. In addition to the seminar, the 6th IC2MS 2024 held a workshop with the theme “Exploring Chemical Space with DataWarrior: Unveiling the Universe of Molecular Possibilities.”.
The event was officially opened by Prof. Bambang Kuswandi as the Vice Chancellor for Planning, Cooperation, and Information Systems of the University of Jember. In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor 4 of UNEJ said that IC2MS is a unique forum for researchers, scientists, and industry professionals to share the latest findings, exchange ideas, and collaborate. “In that forum, we can discuss a lot to stimulate thoughts, challenge existing paradigms, and explore new research,” he said.
Previously, the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., congratulated Chemistry for successfully organizing IC2MS 2024 and presenting many domestic and foreign researchers. “With many researchers present, there will also be many innovative ideas to continue sustainable development, or what we usually know as SDGs,” he said. At the opening ceremony, a memorandum of understanding was also signed with the Research Institute Molecular Alchemy (G-Lamp) Gyeongsang National University, Korea, with the University of Jember, and with Chemistry FMIPA UNEJ.
The 6th IC2MS 2024 was attended by 55 oral presenters and 38 poster presenters from within and outside the country. Participants were divided into 3 rooms with 2 sessions each day. It began with a presentation by invited speakers at the beginning of the session. Participants were also allowed to choose a room according to their field of interest. Meanwhile, posters were placed in a special room for the judging process. The workshop was held in the entrepreneurship building of the University of Jember. Prof. Anak Agung Istri Ratnadewi, as the closing event of TThe 6th IC2MS 2024, also announced the best oral presenter, poster presenter, and best participant by vote. The next IC2MS host is Universiti Teknologi Mara.
