Statistician Clinic is result of a follow-up to the Cooperation Agreement between Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) of Kabupaten Jember with Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UNEJ last January. The existence of Statistician Clinic is expected to be able to improve Statistical Literacy to the wider community and assist students in consulting and searching for data for research and research purposes.
The Statistician Clinic is open every Monday to Friday from 09.00 to 15.00 which is temporarily located in the courtyard of the Mathematics Department building, FMIPA UNEJ. In the future, this clinic will occupy one of the spaces around the Jember University Library in order to reach more visitors. Some of the services that can be obtained include publication of digital data, statistical consultation, and recommendations for statistical activities.
“Specifically, statistical data consultation services and recommendations for statistical activities are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays,” explained Muhammad Ali Musa, an intern student at the Statistician Clinic. Together with Muhammad Bayu Nusantara, both of them were given the mandate to manage Statistics Clinic as work experience.
During the internship, the two students will be guided directly by a mentor from BPS Kabupaten 2 times a week. Every visitor who wants to get services at the Statistician Clinic is free of charge. “Statistician Clinic also aims to improve knowledge, skills, and competencies of FMIPA UNEJ students in Internship activities/student work practices, especially MBKM,” said Dr. Kiswara Agung Santoso as Head of Mathematics Department, FMIPA UNEJ. Internship MBKM program which is converted into 9 credits so that it can provide opportunities for students to continue taking other non-internship courses of 15 credits.It was further revealed that as the times progressed, work experience became one of the references to improve students’ skills in dealing with the world of work.
To increase the competence of higher education graduates, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has collaborated with various agencies. Specifically for data processing, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Jember cooperates with the BPS of Kabupaten Jember to collaborate in terms of academics as well as to introduce statistical literacy to the wider community. BPS itself hopes that with the agreement, it can continue to develop sectoral statistics in order to improve the quality of statistics through coaching and with FMIPA, University of Jember, one of which is.
For information, Badan Pusat Statistik is a Government Institution as a provider of statistical data and information for government and the public to build a national statistical system in order to support Advanced Indonesia. In line with that, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Jember prepares a collaboration to be able to send students for internships/work practices through the MBKM program. This agreement will be the first in 2022, after in 2020 and 2021 FMIPA UNEJ has collaborated with several state universities, government agencies, banking institutions as well as the private sector.
