The “MIPA Bergerak Sehat” event continues with a chess tournament. Representatives from various departments and the FMIPA deanery competed in chess in front of the Biology Department building. The players were divided into two groups, and the tournament was played in two rounds. The Dean of FMIPA UNEJ, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., joined in the fun by participating in the chess match. “As I mentioned during the opening, now it’s time to compete in the chess tournament,” he said. As a warm-up, the Dean played a practice match with Prof. Dr. Kahar Muzakhar, S.Si. Although they were in the same group, they didn’t face each other directly. “Let’s practice first. Even though we’re in the same group, we haven’t met yet. I’ll wait for you in the final, Prof. Kahar,” said Prof. Dafik.
At the start of the tournament, four chess pieces and a timer were provided for each group. The organizers set rules that all participants had to follow. “We’ve set the rules, and we’re playing in the spirit of good health and sportsmanship, following the ‘MIPA Bergerak Sehat’ motto,” said Budiyono, one of the organizers. In the final round, Sapik from the Dean’s office faced Muhayat Zamroni. After a fierce match, Muhayat Zamroni emerged as the winner. The Dean hopes this event will continue, as it helps sharpen the mind and serves as a refreshing break from work.
Earlier, a badminton competition was held at the FMIPA ORMAWA building, with men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles matches. “The game score is 15 points, with two sets to win,” said the organizers. Each team consisted of faculty members, educational staff, and Dharma Wanita members from the different departments and the Dean’s office at FMIPA. The event took place over two days, from November 28 to 29, 2024. In the final, the Physics and Biology teams competed, and the Physics Department won.
A volleyball tournament was also held last Saturday. Each team had 3 men and 3 women, made up of faculty members, staff, and Dharma Wanita members. “Each team will play one set, and the winners will be determined by the highest points from the 5 matches,” said the organizers. In the end, the Physics Department won first place in volleyball, followed by the Biology Department in second. Although it was just one set, the players looked tired after having to play five matches.
This event is part of the 60th anniversary celebrations of the University of Jember (Dies Natalis). FMIPA organized various competitions under the theme “MIPA Bergerak Sehat” (MIPA Moves to Stay Healthy). The event was opened by the Dean of FMIPA, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., in the Mathematics Department building. The event was led by the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Esti Utarti, S.P., M.Si. The competitions included table tennis, badminton, volleyball, chess, and ended with a walk and a bazaar competition. As of this news update, the volleyball tournament is still ongoing.
