FMIPA UNEJ and NTU Singapore Discuss AI Implementation for Future Learning and Research

FMIPA UNEJ further strengthened its international academic network by hosting a research discussion session featuring Assoc. Prof. Zaher M. A. Judeh from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, as the speaker (October 1). Held at the FMIPA Dean’s Office meeting room, the event was attended by heads of study programs within the faculty, as well as lecturers from various other faculties, including the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Agriculture. Moderated by M. Ziaul Arif, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., the discussion focused on the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support learning processes, assessment, and research development in higher education.

During the demo session, Prof. Zaher introduced Eduara, an AI-based learning platform designed to help lecturers manage the learning process more effectively and adaptively. “Through Eduara, lecturers can upload course materials, compile question banks with answers, and set question difficulty levels aligned with learning outcomes,” he explained. He added that student learning outcomes can be analyzed via a comprehensive grading system. “Eudara can also map students’ capabilities based on performance, thereby providing personalized, data-driven learning recommendations,” he added.

The discussion became increasingly engaging when the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., raised various issues regarding the evolution of AI technology; he noted that AI not only plays a role in educational transformation but also holds immense potential to support research activities. “We need to approach AI developments strategically so that the technology can be leveraged to enhance research quality, accelerate data analysis, and open up broader opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration,” he stated. Prof. Zaher also shared insights on AI implementation within international academic settings, addressing the challenges of maintaining academic integrity while simultaneously optimizing AI as a partner in future learning and research processes.

The participants’ enthusiasm was evident in the various questions and ideas shared during the discussion session. Representatives from the Faculty of Pharmacy highlighted opportunities for AI-driven research collaboration to advance future drug development, while the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ expressed readiness to contribute the necessary technological support for implementation. In his closing remarks, Prof. Dafik expressed hope that this event would serve as a starting point for expanding international cooperation and accelerating the adoption of AI technology within academic processes. “Advancements in AI and collaboration will drive research innovations capable of addressing the challenges posed by the evolution of science and technology in the digital era,” he concluded.
