International Guest Lecture 2026 Features NTU Singapore Expert, Strengthening International Collaboration and Chemical Research Innovation

FMIPA UNEJ, in collaboration with LPMPP UNEJ, hosted the “International Guest Lecture 2026” in a hybrid format at the FMIPA Physics Department Auditorium as part of efforts to strengthen the academic atmosphere and international cooperation networks (October 1). The event opened with remarks from the Head of LPMPP, Prof. Dr. Ermanto Fahamsyah, S.H., M.H., who emphasized the importance of university internationalization through academic collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the enhancement of teaching and research quality. “Academic forums featuring international experts serve as one of the University of Jember’s strategies to improve the quality of higher education and global competitiveness,” he stated.

The International Guest Lecture was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at UNEJ, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D. In his remarks, Prof. Dafik noted that this event serves as a significant opportunity for the FMIPA UNEJ academic community to broaden their scientific horizons and establish research collaborations with academics from various countries. “I hope this will inspire the lecturersand students to continue producing innovations that have an impact on the advancement of science and society,” he said before an audience of lecturers and students from several faculties at UNEJ.

The first scientific session featured Assoc. Prof. Zaher M. A. Judeh from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, who presented a talk titled “Functionalized Heterocycles from Carbohydrates.” In his presentation, Assoc. Prof. Zaher explained the use of carbohydrates as starting materials for the synthesis of functionalized heterocyclic compounds, which hold great promise for drug development, medicinal chemistry, and functional materials. The presentation provided participants with insights into the latest advancements in modern organic synthesis while also opening opportunities for research collaboration between FMIPA UNEJ and international institutions. The session concluded with a Q&A segment involving both in-person and online participants, moderated by Dr. Ika Oktavianawati, S.Si., M.Sc.

The next presentation was delivered by Dr. Muhammad Reza, S.Si., M.Si., M.Sc., a lecturer from the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember, on the topic “Engineered PANI/TiO₂ Nanotube Heterojunctions.” Dr. Reza presented research findings regarding the engineering of heterojunctions based on polyaniline (PANI) and TiO₂ nanotubes, which hold the potential to enhance material performance across various applications, including photocatalysis and energy conversion. Hardian Susilo Addy, S.P., M.P., Ph.D. Head of the International Partnership and Service Center at LPMPP UNEJ and the event’s moderator stated that FMIPA UNEJ, in collaboration with LPMPP UNEJ, is committed to hosting international-standard academic forums to strengthen the quality of education and research, as well as to expand global collaborative networks.
