The Senate of the FMIPA UNEJ held the yudisium for the 86th Postgraduate and 122nd Undergraduate cohorts of the 2026/2027 Academic Year (Period III) on September 17. The event took place at the Physics Department Auditorium. This particular ceremony was distinguished by the presence of Prof. Dr. Sunder Ramasamy and Dr. Himani Binjola from India. The Dean of FMIPA UNEJ, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., delivered his address in English. He emphasized the importance of lifelong learning to the graduates, stating, “Congratulations to the graduates; I urge you to always embrace lifelong learning after completing your studies at FMIPA, as it will serve you well whether you enter the workforce or pursue further studies.”.
Prof. Dafik highlighted the role of technology specifically artificial intelligence (AI) in assisting students as they seek employment or pursue further studies. “Given that FMIPA alumni possess the versatility to enter diverse fields, the integration of AI means they can not only look for jobs but also create employment opportunities, in addition to the option of continuing their education,” he added. The importance of English as a global language for those wishing to study abroad was also emphasized. The Dean of FMIPA presided over the open meeting of the Faculty Senate, accompanied by the Vice Dean I, II and III. The meeting was attended by all members of the FMIPA Senate, as well as invited representatives from the faculty and administrative staff of FMIPA UNEJ.
Next, the reading of the decision letter from the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ regarding the 86th Postgraduate Program and the 122nd Undergraduate Program of FMIPA UNEJ Period III for the 2026/2027 Academic Year by the Deputy Dean I of FMIPA Prof. Dra. Hari Sulistiyowati, M.Sc., Ph.D.Followed by congratulations from the Deans, Deputy Deans and Heads of Departments to all graduates. In this period, the highest GPA graduate from the Undergraduate Program was achieved by Siti Hajar Febrianti from the Undergraduate Physics Study Program with a GPA of 3.83 with a study period of 3 years 9 months 26 days. The fastest graduate was Ratu Alya Mukhbita from the Bachelor of Biology Study Program with a GPA of 3.61 and a study period of 3 years, 4 months, 14 days. Meanwhile, the highest GPA winner for the Postgraduate Program was Merin Eka Puspitasari, S.Pd. from the Mathematics Masters Program with a GPA of 3.78 with a study period of 1 year, 5 months, 4 days.
Prof. Dr. Sunder Ramasamy from Galgotias University, India, encouraged graduating students to create job opportunities by leveraging rapidly advancing technology. Drawing on words of wisdom from the President of India, Prof. Sunder urged them to dream first before striving to make those dreams a reality. “If you have an aspiration or a dream, embrace and immerse yourself in it, then bring it to fruition through hard work—which includes not merely seeking employment but creating your own professional path,” he stated. Prof. Sunder, who visited Indonesia as a keynote speaker at the 10th International Conference on Combinatorics, Graph Theory, and Network Topology (ICCGANT) 2026, expressed his hope for the future success of the graduating students from the FMIPA UNEJ.
The alumni motivational address at the graduation ceremony was delivered by Hanif Mufti Al Islam, S.Si., M.Si., an alumnus of the FMIPA UNEJ who completed his Bachelor’s degree in Physics in 2017 and his Master’s degree in Physics in 2021. Hanif noted that upon graduation, FMIPA UNEJ alumni inevitably wonder what to do next and where to go. “I faced that same question myself; however, drawing on the words of Anies Baswedan that education is not merely preparation for employment but rather the ability to solve problems I identified a key issue in Indonesia: education. Consequently, I chose to become a teacher to help resolve it,” he said. A teacher at the Al-Irsyad Tengaran 6 Islamic Boarding School (PIAT6) in Bondowoso, Hanif encouraged his fellow FMIPA UNEJ alumni to begin mapping out their future plans, utilizing the knowledge and skills gained during their studies at the faculty.
Hanif stated that the graduates must have a mission and begin refining it to address any questions that might arise after tomorrow’s commencement ceremony. “Never lose heart, for we alumni of FMIPA UNEJ have been equipped with a ‘compass for life’ to navigate the future,” he added. In his closing remarks, the recipient of the “Top 100 Alumnus Pesona Al-Qur’an” award in Jember encouraged everyone to motivate themselves, never give up, and persist in striving for a bright future. Following the graduation confirmation ceremony, group photos were taken for the various study programs within FMIPA UNEJ. The graduates are set to attend the commencement ceremony this coming weekend at the University of Jember’s Auditorium..
