Department of Chemistry FMIPA UNEJ held 3rd International Conference on Chemistry and Material Science (IC2MS) 2021

Department of Chemistry, FMIPA, University of Jember held the 3rd International Conference on Chemistry and Material Science (IC2MS) 2021 by online (12-13/10). IC2MS is a biennial agenda of collaboration between Department of Chemistry, University of Jember, Brawijaya University and Universitas Negeri Malang. In 2021, Department of Chemistry, FMIPA UNEJ hosted with the theme “Innovation on Material Science for Sustainable Industrial Chemistry“. The 3rd IC2MS 2021 topics are Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry. At the Opening Ceremony, Dr. A.A.I. Ratnadewi as Chief Executive 3rd IC2MS said that IC2MS 2021 attended 6 Keynote Speakers. “We present Prof. Manabu Abe from School of Chemistry, Hiroshima University, Japan, Prof. Yong-Chien Ling from Department of Chemistry, National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan, ROC, Prof. Byung-Dae Park from Department of Wood and Paper Science, Kyungpook National University, Republic of Korea, Hasliza Bahruji, Ph.D. from the Center for Advanced Materials and Energy Sciences, Universiti of Brunei Darussalam, Brunei Darussalam, Prof. David Lennon from School of Chemistry, University of Glasgow, United Kingdom and Prof. . Russell Howe from School of Natural and Computing Sciences, University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom as keynote speaker”. she said. 3rd IC2MS 2021 also presented 4 invited speakers, Nanang Masruchin, Ph.D. from LIPI, Anna Safitri, Ph.D. from Brawijaya University, Dr. Irma Kartika Kusumaningrum from Universitas Negeri Malang and Drs. Zulfikar, Ph.D. from University of Jember.

Opening Ceremony was guided by Ika Oktavianawati, S.Si., M.Sc. Next, was speech from Dr. Bambang Piluharto, M.Si. as Head of the Department of Chemistry, FMIPA UNEJ. In his speech, Head of the Chemistry Department hoped that the 3rd IC2MS 2021 agenda could further strengthen cooperation of the consortium of 3 universities in research. The 3rd IC2MS 2021 event was officially opened by Wakil Rektor III University of Jember, Prof. Bambang Kuswandi, who hopes that through this conference, he will introduce University of Jember, especially Department of Chemistry, FMIPA, to the international arena. Wakil Rektor III University of Jember also wishes that the topics raised in the 3rd IC2MS can realize the strategic plan of University of Jember, namely to become a center for international research.

Event lasted for two days, attended by 150 presenters who were divided into 5 parallel rooms and also 200 participants. On the first day after the opening ceremony, it was continued with three keynote speakers, namely Prof. Yong-Chien Ling continued by Prof. Byung-Dae Park and Dr. Hasliza Bahruji. The next event was first parallel session by presenting 4 invited speakers in each room with a moderator from Department of Chemistry, FMIPA UNEJ. The second session, still with the same agenda until the afternoon.

Second day began with implementation of the second parallel session by opening 5 rooms. The 3rd IC2MS 2021 event was closed with three keynote speakers, namely Prof. David Lennon, Prof. Russell Howe and Prof. Manabu Abe. All events took place online by involving a committee from all lecturers of the Department of Chemistry, FMIPA UNEJ assisted by students of Department of Chemistry, FMIPA as moderator. And the 3rd IC2MS 2021 event was closed by Dean of FMIPA UNEJ Drs. Achmad Sjaifullah, M.Sc., Ph.D. He hopes this agenda can be carried out again offline and hopes that the pandemic will soon pass. Last, introduction as the next IC2MS host: Universitas Negeri Malang represented by Head of Department of Chemistry, FMIPA UM, Dr. Sumari, M.Si.
