DWP FMIPA UNEJ visits Purnama Jati Production House, Sees Cassava and Edamame Tape Processing

The management of the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Jember University, led directly by the Chairperson of the DWP FMIPA, Nur Sa’dijah Achmad Sjaifullah, visited the Purnama Jati production house in the Jalan Bungur Gebang Jember area (5/1). “Through the education work program, DWP FMIPA UNEJ wants to improve the skills of its members; one way is by visiting Purnama Jati,” he said. It was further stated that DWP FMIPA members could see firsthand the process of making processed cassava and edamame tape and also learn how to start and manage a business.

Purnama Jati started his business in 2000, starting as a small household business by opening a window in front of the house. “We started the business at a young age using a display case at home; we started several cakes from processed cassava and edamame,” began the story of Mrs. Firdaus, who gave up her civil servant status to dare to become an entrepreneur. He also said that when the pandemic hit, turnover decreased, and he put his mind to work to keep the business running smoothly. And that solution comes through cookies delivered online.

“We make these cakes to order and deliver them using online delivery services including Paxel, Shopee, and others,” continued the winner of the 2017 SME Award Gold Category from Bogasari. Purnama Jati, which always prioritizes fresh products, has now become a reference for travelers in Jember looking for souvenirs. Other souvenir shops are also marketing, with many MSMEs collaborating. Some students even use it as a research site for their final assignments.

The DWP FMIPA UNEJ management had the opportunity to see the processing of brownie tape, pia tape, and pia edamame products, as well as dry cakes such as nastar, castangel, and chocolate banana bolen. It was also explained that the ingredients used are of course hygienic and nutritious. An attractive packaging process will also add its own selling value. At the end of the event, DWP FMIPA took a group photo and received a bonus calendar from Purnama Jati.
