FMIPA UNEJ Opens Undergraduate Data Science Program, Preparing Superior Data Talent for the Future Agroindustry

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at the University of Jember officially opened the Undergraduate Data Science Program for the 2026/2027 Academic Year. Based on Decree No. 453/B/O/2026 from the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, the introduction of this new study program is a strategic step by FMIPA UNEJ to address the needs of the era of rapid development of digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and data-driven decision-making. Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., Dean of FMIPA UNEJ, stated that the opening of the Undergraduate Data Science Program is not simply the addition of a new study program, but rather FMIPA UNEJ’s commitment to preparing a superior generation capable of addressing global challenges.

“Today’s world is moving very quickly, with data as the primary foundation for decision-making. Therefore, FMIPA UNEJ presents the Undergraduate Data Science Program to prepare young talents who not only master theory but also are able to process data into real solutions for society and industry,” he said. According to him, the Data Science Undergraduate Program is designed with a core strength in the foundations of mathematics, statistics, and modern computing, which are the hallmarks of the FMIPA. Wanting to Learn More, SMAN 1 Asembagus Visits the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember (UNEJ), received a visit from SMAN 1 Asembagus to learn more about the Faculty in particular and the University of Jember in general (December 22). Led by Drs. Said Ripin Bukaryo, M.Si., Principal of SMAN 1 Asembagus, the group was received by the Vice Dean I of the Faculty, Prof. Dra. Hari Sulistiyowati, M.Sc., Ph.D., accompanied by the Vice Dean III of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Edy Supriyanto, S.Si., M.Si. “I would like to thank you for hosting our visit. This allows our students to learn more about the Faculty and ultimately develop an interest in studying there,” said Said. He stated that the Faculty produces excellent graduates, and he himself, an alumnus of the first class of the Faculty’s Master of Mathematics Study Program, cited the example of himself as an alumnus of the first class of the Faculty’s Master of Mathematics Study Program.

In her remarks, the Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UNEJ, introduced the undergraduate and master’s study programs at the Faculty. “We have four undergraduate and four master’s programs: mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology, all of which have been UNGGUL accredited,” she said. Prof. Hari also discussed the curriculum and the superior learning facilities, especially the laboratories, which students of SMAN 1 Asembagus will be able to visit directly. To conclude the ceremonial visit, the Principal of SMAN 1 Asembagus presented souvenirs to the Vice Deans I and III of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The Bachelor’s Degree Program in Mathematics at FMIPA UNEJ is finalizing the evaluation of the LAMSAMA accreditation documents

The Bachelor’s Degree Program in Mathematics at FMIPA UNEJ held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to evaluate the LAMSAMA accreditation documents at Grand Valonia (January 11-12). The session featured support from Dr. Yulia Indrawati, S.E., M.Si., and Riska Rian Fauziah, S.Pt., M.Sc., M.P., Ph.D., from the Quality Assurance and Learning Development Institution (LPMPP) of the University of Jember. The event was also attended by the Vice Dean I of FMIPA, Dra. Hari Sulistiyowati, M.Sc., Ph.D., and Vice Dean II of FMIPA, Dr. Esti Utarti, S.P., M.Si. “Over the next two days, we will discuss the evaluation of the LAMSAMA accreditation documents for the Mathematics Bachelor’s program with guidance from LPMPP, and we hope for a positive result, which is an EXCELLENT accreditation,” said the Vice Dean I of FMIPA.

For two days, the accreditation task force team for the Mathematics Bachelor’s program at FMIPA worked on aligning the Program Study Performance Report (LKPS) and Self-Evaluation Report (LED). Each criterion was supported by teams from LPMPP and the UPM-GPM FMIPA UNEJ. The task force team had previously worked based on the agreed criteria. “The Mathematics task force team has already been working according to the criteria that were set,” said Kusbudiono, S.Si., M.Si., the head of the accreditation task force. Kusbudiono hopes that by the end of the discussions, each criterion team will be able to complete their work to submit to LAMSAMA. Continue reading

106th Graduation Ceremony of Undergraduate Program (S1) FMIPA UNEJ Period VI Academic Year 2024/2025

FMIPA UNEJ held the 106th Undergraduate (S1) Graduation of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember, Period VI, Academic Year 2024/2025 (18/10). Held in the Auditorium of the Entrepreneurship Building, University of Jember. In his graduation speech, the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., invited the graduates to immediately equip themselves in preparation for entering society. “With the knowledge gained, coupled with persistence and consistency, soft skills are needed again, which are called adaptation skills to the environment, especially the world of work,” said Prof. Dafik.

Adaptation skills are needed because of the constant changes that occur in this life. “Along with the progress of the times, the knowledge gained must transform into skills so that adaptation skills become extraordinary,” he continued. The graduates were reminded that soft skills and hard skills are basic decisions of adaptation, while adaptation is the key to success. Make it a weapon to be able to fight in entering the world of work. The dean advised that graduation is the future of a brilliant generation by holding the keywords conveyed. “Hopefully you will all be successful, and don’t waste time; fill your time by continuing to study,” he concluded. 75th Postgraduate Program Graduation Ceremony 104th and 105th Undergraduate Program FMIPA UNEJ Period 4 & 5 Academic Year 2024/2025

FMIPA UNEJ held the 75th Postgraduate (S2) and 104th and 105th Undergraduate (S1) Program Graduation of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember, Period 4 & 5, Academic Year 2024/2025 (27/9). This FMIPA graduation combined 2 periods at once. In his graduation speech, the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., invited the graduates to immediately prepare themselves after the graduation by holding two keywords in achieving success. “After the graduation and graduation, immediately prepare to achieve success with 2 keywords, namely persistence and consistency, because in navigating the world ahead, you will definitely encounter what is called failure,” said Prof. Dafik.

With persistence and consistency will show someone’s success. The Dean of FMIPA also mentioned the importance of smart work to support persistence and consistency. “Hard work is important but smart work is more important especially in solving a problem in community life,” he continued. If the combination works well then someone’s success will come, and all religions have taught it. “The last one, lose dependence on parents, stand on your own two feet to determine success in the future,” he concluded. Dean of FMIPA UNEJ: We Will Realize the Big Goal of FMIPA UNEJ Graduates Achieving 3.5 Rank 4

FMIPA UNEJ held the 101st Undergraduate (S1) and 74th Postgraduate (S2) Judicial Conference at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember, Period 1 of the 2024/2025 Academic Year (19/7). Prospective graduates attended an open meeting of the FMIPA senate in the public lecture room of the FMIPA Biology Department. Led and opened directly by the Dean of FMIPA Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D. the procession took place solemnly. In his graduation speech, the Dean congratulated the graduates. “On behalf of the institution, I would like to congratulate you on your graduation and achievements for at least 4 years in completing your studies at FMIPA UNEJ,” began the Dean of FMIPA. It was also said that the institution is proud because every year the number of graduates who arrive on time with an impressive achievement index continues to increase.

“At the start of this odd lecture, FMIPA will continue to improve to develop big desires and aspirations. I have a big goal of 3.5 to the power of 4 in mathematical terms,” he continued. Continuing, the first 3.5 is as much as possible for 3.5-year FMIPA students to take the thesis exam; the second is as much as possible to get a GPA of 3.5 to compete with competitors in the world of work. “The next 3.5 is the 3.5 month waiting period for FMIPA graduates to get a job, and the last 3.5 million is the first salary that FMIPA graduates get,” hoped the Dean, who was accompanied by the Vice Deans and the UNEJ FMIPA Senate at the senate session.
