The Gita Laras FMIPA UNEJ Choir Team (padsu) participated in the Inter-Work Unit Choir Competition throughout the University of Jember at the 5th Floor of the Soejarwo Building (27/6). This year, the FMIPA padsu received lottery number 4 out of 19 participants who took part in the competition. After being opened by Prof. Dr. drg. Sri Hernawati, M.Kes. Vice Rector for Finance and General Affairs, Gita Laras performed two songs, the mandatory song Kulihat Ibu Pertiwi by Charles C, Ismail Marzuki and the Rote NTT regional song Mana Lolo Banda arranged by Yeremia Andika Putra. Gita Laras FMIPA is a padsu consisting of FMIPA lecturers and staff. The choir competition is a routine agenda of UNEJ to commemorate the Birth of Pancasila in 2026.
Wearing uniforms typical of the Rote region, Gita Laras FMIPA presented two songs in unison, earning a Silver Certificate. This performance was achieved after almost a full month of routine practice in between activities at the faculty. Accompanied by a coach, the FMIPA Padsu team trained in the afternoon to adjust their voices according to the score and movements to support their stage performance. The day before the competition, the Padsu team conducted a stage test or dress rehearsal to test the stage and team positions. The committee also gave the Padsu the opportunity to practice singing two songs that would be presented the following day.
For your information, the purpose of the UNEJ Padsu competition is to recall the values of Pancasila, strengthen the bonds of friendship and solidarity and provide a channel for artistic expression for the University of Jember community. The choir consists of 16 to 24 singers, with 1 conductor and also accompanists who can come from UNEJ or from outside UNEJ. The competition participants sing a mandatory song with a Pancasila theme and a choice of folklore songs (not pop songs in regional languages). The mandatory and choice songs are sung after being arranged with 4 voices: soprano, alto, tenor and bass. Specifically, the choice song is allowed to add a maximum of 2 acoustic musical instruments.
With a panel of judges competent in their fields, the criteria assessed were material, technique, demeanor, and performance. The choir competition concluded the 2026 Pancasila Month celebrations, which began with a ceremony, followed by a Nusantara parade, a TikTok competition, and a national lecture. UNEJ Rector Iwan Taruna officially closed the event, which this year featured a relatively simple competition, while maintaining the values of Pancasila as its foundation. The Pancasila Month celebration committee rotates annually. Next year, the Faculty of Agriculture will serve as the committee. Gita Laras FMIPA will again participate in the choir competition in 2027.
