Mila Hidayatul Aula, Physics Master’s Student, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Participates in the [in]Visible Power Female Leadership Camp in Russia

Mila Hidayatul Aula, a Master of Physics student at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jakarta (UNEJ), and ten other participants received full scholarships. She outperformed more than 220 applicants from 20 countries who registered for the [in]Visible Power Female Leadership Camp program, held from September 21-29, 2025, in Obninsk and Moscow. Mila, along with participants from 20 countries, had the opportunity to learn leadership, public communication, and career development strategies in science and technology. She believes this global insight will have a significant impact on the world of research in Indonesia. “I personally want to encourage international research collaborations focused on the safe and sustainable use of nuclear energy,” said Mila.

Mila said honesty and self-reflection in her motivational essay were key to her success. “The committee wants to know not only what we have achieved, but also the reasons behind it,” she continued. Research and scientific communication help demonstrate that participants must have a passion for playing an active role and inspiring others. Mila also had the opportunity to learn leadership, public communication, and career development strategies in science and technology. Mila believes this global insight will have a significant impact on the research world in Indonesia in general and her alma mater, the University of Jember, in particular. Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember, Period 5, Academic Year 2025/2026

FThe Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Jember University held the 114th Undergraduate Graduation Ceremony for the 5th Period of the 2025/2026 Academic Year (11/18). The ceremony took place in the Physics Department Auditorium of the Faculty. In his graduation speech, the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., congratulated the graduates on their successful completion of their studies at FMIPA. He also informed that in the next few months, UNEJ’s status will change from a BLU to a PTNBH. “If PTNBH becomes a legal entity (PTNBH), there will be greater opportunities for FMIPA to open new study programs, and this has been appreciated by the Rector, the closest being the data science study program,” he began. The opening of study programs will result in an increased number of students who will be mentored to participate in society, like the graduates at this morning’s graduation ceremony.

Prof. Dafik stated that strong alumni data is needed to track the progress of FMIPA graduates in society. “With this data, we are preparing an OBE curriculum that will broaden the reach of alumni and enable them to choose their desired career fields,” he continued. Prof. Dafik also expressed his hope that a bachelor’s degree is not the end, but rather a foundation for lifelong learning. “Continue learning, be consistent in your efforts, and ultimately you will achieve victory and success,” he concluded. The Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences led an open meeting of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences senate, accompanied by the Vice Deans I, II, and III of the Faculty. CampusGov & Career Empowerment Webinar by Mochamad Noersjam Tohari, Deputy Director of Operations at PT. Surya Madistrindo

Badan Perwakilan Mahasiswa (BPM) of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of the University of East Java (UNEJ) held a CampusGov & Career Empowerment Webinar with Mochamad Noersjam Tohari, Deputy Director of Operations of PT Surya Madistrindo, a subsidiary of PT Gudang Garam Tbk, as a speaker. The theme was “Strengthening the Student Representative Body while Equipping Them with Soft Skills and Career Insights,” and it was opened by Dr. Esti Utarti, S.P., M.Si., Deputy Dean II of FMIPA UNEJ and also the advisor of BPM FMIPA. In her remarks, the Vice Dean II stated that the webinar was held to celebrate the 27th anniversary of FMIPA and the 61st anniversary of UNEJ. Mochamad Noersjam Tohari, familiarly known as Noersjam, shared insights related to soft skill development and preparation for entering the workforce. The webinar was attended by 210 participants from across Indonesia, including those from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Malaysia. Participants included not only students but also members of the general public.

In his presentation, Noersjam emphasized that career readiness is determined not only by academic ability, but also by soft skills and behavioral competencies that demonstrate a candidate’s professionalism. He explained that initial documents, such as the application letter and curriculum vitae (CV), must be neatly structured, concise, and error-free to demonstrate the applicant’s seriousness in participating in the selection process. Early Detection of Breast Cancer: PKM-RE FMIPA Receives BELMAWA DIKTI Funding 2025

PKM RE team from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) University of Jember, with the theme “Optimalisasi Rekonstruksi Citra Electrical Tomography dengan Pendekatan Bayesian untuk Deteksi Dini Breast Cancer” has successfully secured funding for the 2025 PKM program. An online Progress Assessment of the 2025 PKM Program Implementation took place at the Mathematics Laboratory of the FMIPA University of Jember on October 24th. “We will deliver a presentation to assess the progress of the PKM program, particularly the research results conducted by the team,” said M. Ziaul Arif, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., the PKM RE FMIPA supervisor. He added that the team had prepared a research presentation with guidance from the UNEJ PKM task force and the Student Affairs Department at the University of Jember.

The “Breast Cancer” RE PKM team consists of Fyoliena Yolandha from Mathematics as team leader, Faiza Nuril Husna and Umi Khoifatus Sholihah also from Mathematics, and Ulul ‘Azmi and Mohammad Setiawan Wibisono from Faculty of Computer Science (FASILKOM). Fyoliena Yolandha, as she is familiarly known, stated that early detection of breast cancer is key to increasing a patient’s chances of recovery. “Through this PKM, we developed an optimized reconstruction of Electrical Tomography (ET) images using a Bayesian approach to help detect breast cancer early more quickly, accurately, and affordably,” she explained. Visiting Professor Prof. Dr. rer.nat. Muhammad Farchani Rosyid, M.Sc., from UGM Yogyakarta

In a series of 27th birthday parties of the Faculty of Science and 61st birthday parties of the University of Jember. The Department of Physics FMIPA organized a visitor professor presenting Prof. Dr. rer.nat. Muhammad Farchani Rosyid, M.Si. from the Department of Physics, FMIPA, UGM (22/10). Taking up the topic of “THE HISTORY OF GRAVITATION”, the event was formally opened by the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D. In his welcome the Dean said today’s event was special because it brought a professor from UGM who would deliver a lecture on the history of gravity. “It will discuss the development of the concept of gravity, starting from Aristotle who believed objects fall because they return to their natural place, to Galileo who proved all objects fall in the same way without hindrance,” he said in FMIPA’s Physics Auditorium.

Prof. Dafik said Einstein developed a theory of general relativity that explained gravity as the curvature of space-time by mass, as well as predicting phenomena such as gravitational waves. “And that the concept of balance in the universe has been mentioned in the Qur’an, Surah Al-Mulk verses 3-4, which shows the relationship between science and religious belief,” he continued. The Dean also invited as well as Prof. Veerabhadriah Lokesha from India and Prof. Sudrajat Supian, M.Sc., Ph.D. from the University of Padjajaran. Earlier, the welcoming speech was also delivered by the Chairman of the Department of Physics FMIPA Dr. Agus Suprianto, S.Si., M.T. who is also a fellow speaker during his doctoral studies at UGM Yogyakarta. Biology Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UNEJ Holds the 6th ICOLIB 2025 and Partners with UPA PL2T UNEJ to Hold Plant Biotechnology Symposium

The Biology Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember held the 6th International Conference on Life Sciences and Biotechnology (ICOLIB) 2025 in a hybrid (17-18/10). ICOLIB is an international seminar scheduled every two years. The first ICOLIB was held in 2015, and 2025 is the sixth event. Taking the theme “Synergizing Biodiversity, Biotechnology, and Global Resilience for a Sustainable Future“. Held in the Natural Science and Food Technology (NSF) Hall, 4th floor of the IsDB Building, ICOLIB 2025 is also aligned with the Plant Biotechnology Symposium agenda by the UPA Waste Management and Integrated Laboratory of UNEJ.

The 6th ICOLIB 2025 was officially opened by Prof. Drs. Slamin, M.Comp.Sc., Ph.D., Vice Rector of the University of Jember for Academic Affairs by online. The Vice Rector I of UNEJ stated that the theme raised at ICOLIB 2025 is very relevant to the vision of the University of Jember, especially in supporting sustainable industrial agriculture. “The University of Jember is committed to becoming a living laboratory in the fields of agricultural science, tropical biology, and bio-based materials, and upholds the combination of global research and local wisdom,” he said. ICOLIB is not only a presentation event, but a space for collaboration, exchange of ideas, and the formation of international partnerships across disciplines.
