Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember, Period VIII, Academic Year 2024/2025

FMIPA UNEJ held the 76th Postgraduate (S2) and 108th Undergraduate Graduation of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember, Period VIII, Academic Year 2024/2025 (16/4). Held in the Auditorium of the Entrepreneurship Building, University of Jember. In the graduation speech, the Dean of FMIPA UNEJ, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., congratulated the graduates on graduating and preparing to enter the real world, namely the world of work. “Congratulations, you have graduated and are now ready to enter society through the world of work or continue your studies,” said Prof. Dafik. Current job prospects include becoming teachers; it is said that the world of Indonesian education still needs many educators, and opportunities for FMIPA alumni can follow that with the PPG program.

Graduation is also about trying all fields of work because FMIPA alumni have the provisions. There are many job vacancies available through the internet pages that are widely spread. “You can start hunting for work through job vacancies on the internet; there are many opportunities spread across various fields and places,” he continued. Not only around the Jember area, Prof. Dafik also challenged the graduates to spread their wings to get job opportunities. It was also conveyed that for those who want to continue their studies, the master’s program at FMIPA has accommodated four fields of undergraduate alumni. At the end of his speech, the dean advised the graduates to be able to contribute after achieving their dreams. “Return to the alma mater to contribute in the form of sharing experiences and filling in tracer studies for alumni,” he concluded. Dean of FMIPA UNEJ: We Will Realize the Big Goal of FMIPA UNEJ Graduates Achieving 3.5 Rank 4

FMIPA UNEJ held the 101st Undergraduate (S1) and 74th Postgraduate (S2) Judicial Conference at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember, Period 1 of the 2024/2025 Academic Year (19/7). Prospective graduates attended an open meeting of the FMIPA senate in the public lecture room of the FMIPA Biology Department. Led and opened directly by the Dean of FMIPA Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D. the procession took place solemnly. In his graduation speech, the Dean congratulated the graduates. “On behalf of the institution, I would like to congratulate you on your graduation and achievements for at least 4 years in completing your studies at FMIPA UNEJ,” began the Dean of FMIPA. It was also said that the institution is proud because every year the number of graduates who arrive on time with an impressive achievement index continues to increase.

“At the start of this odd lecture, FMIPA will continue to improve to develop big desires and aspirations. I have a big goal of 3.5 to the power of 4 in mathematical terms,” he continued. Continuing, the first 3.5 is as much as possible for 3.5-year FMIPA students to take the thesis exam; the second is as much as possible to get a GPA of 3.5 to compete with competitors in the world of work. “The next 3.5 is the 3.5 month waiting period for FMIPA graduates to get a job, and the last 3.5 million is the first salary that FMIPA graduates get,” hoped the Dean, who was accompanied by the Vice Deans and the UNEJ FMIPA Senate at the senate session. 100th Undergraduate and 73rd Postgraduate Judiciary FMIPA UNEJ 10 Academic Year Period 2023/2024

FMIPA UNEJ held the 100th Undergraduate (S1) and 73rd Postgraduate (S2) Judicial Conference at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Jember, for the 10 Academic Year Period 2023-2024 (16/5). 40 prospective female graduates attended the open meeting of the FMIPA senate in the public lecture room of the FMIPA Biology Department. Led and opened directly by the Dean of FMIPA, Prof. Drs. Dafik, M.Sc., Ph.D., the procession took place solemnly. In his graduation speech, the dean congratulated the graduates. “On behalf of the institution, I would like to convey my congratulations on graduation and for the achievements of at least 4 years in completing studies at FMIPA UNEJ,” began the Dean of FMIPA. It is also said that the knowledge gained will be a provision for life in this world and the hereafter.

“As the Prophet said, if you want to be successful in this world and the hereafter then gain as much knowledge as possible, just like if you go to war the main weapon is knowledge,” he continued. It was also said that a bachelor’s degree is not the end of the story, it is actually a challenge to no longer burden parents. Prof. Dafik invited the graduates to become independent people without any more complaints from them. “So the competency standards provided to you are sufficient to be a provision for navigating the ark of life in the future,” said the Dean who was accompanied by the Vice Deans and the FMIPA UNEJ Senate at the senate session. Moving Quickly, UNEJ FMIPA Chemistry Master’s Study Program Implements Benchmarking

After the official opening of early 2024, the Master of Chemistry Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Jember University, carried out benchmarking (29/1). Extraordinary, accompanied by Prof. Akhmaloka, Ph.D. Professor of Biochemistry at the Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), who is also former Rector of ITB and former Chancellor of Pertamina University. Also present at the benchmarking was Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, M.Si., Deputy Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Community Development, Airlangga University. Taking place in the FMIPA Chemistry Department meeting room, all chemistry master’s study program lecturers gained insight into study program management.

Plt Dean of FMIPA UNEJ and Vice Dean I of FMIPA, who are also chemistry lecturers, took part in the presentations from the two experts. It was discussed in detail, starting from recruiting new students, designing the curriculum, improving the quality of lecturers, supporting research groups for students, scholarships or UKT assistance, as well as research funds. Student recruitment can be targeted in the eastern regions of Indonesia and Kalimantan through chemistry education methods. “Hold a pretest and posttest for master’s student recruitment; for foreign students, you can collaborate with embassies with financing agreements,” said Prof. Akhmaloka. Opening of the Chemistry Master’s Study Program, Complete the Master’s Study Program at the FMIPA, University of Jember

Based on the Decree of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Number 99/E/O/2024 dated January 11, 2024, FMIPA UNEJ has a Chemistry Masters Study Program. “The Chemistry Master’s Study Program completes the four master’s study programs at FMIPA UNEJ, after Mathematics, Biology, and Physics,” said Deputy Dean I of FMIPA, Drs. Siswoyo, M.Sc., Ph.D. The opening of the chemistry master’s study program has been prepared for some time to meet the response of FMIPA chemistry undergraduate alumni in particular and the community in general.

“FMIPA chemistry alumni, especially those who want to study further, can now take part in the chemistry master’s study program; people around Jember or East Java can also join us,” he said. It was stated that new student registration would soon be announced after the official appointment of the head of the chemistry master’s study program by the Chancellor of the University of Jember. “The Master of Chemistry will prepare everything for accepting new students, including the selection mechanism,” continued Siswoyo, who is also a lecturer in the Chemistry Department at FMIPA. Collaborative Teaching: Philosophy of Science and Bioethics by Barlah Rumhayati, Ph.D. from Brawijaya University

Barlah Rumhayati, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., Head of the PhD Chemistry Study Program, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Brawijaya University, gave a lecture on Philosophy of Science and Bioethics for Master of Biology students, Department of Biology, FMIPA, University of Jember, on October 9 and 16, 2023. At the beginning of the lecture material, Dr. Barlah explained the meaning of the philosophy of science. “The philosophy of science is a branch of philosophy that studies and systematically questions the nature of scientific knowledge,” she explained. This scientific knowledge relates to philosophical and fundamental issues to achieve scientific knowledge.

Guided by Master of Biology FMIPA UNEJ Lecturer Purwatiningsih, S.Si, M.Si., Ph.D. collaborative teaching is held online. Dr. Barlah also gave the example that when preparing a thesis, master’s students must be systematic or sequential. “In preparing a thesis based on a problem, the solution or answer to the problem must be philosophical, systematic, and fundamental,” she continued. Also, when preparing the conceptual framework of a thesis, it must be philosophical and fundamental to the issues raised or discussed. Continue reading
